Reliable, relatively heavy duty router
Purchased a Bosch for similar price & returned it due to fault. This makita is more compact, heavy, simple to use. I’d describe it as an old fashioned, simple to operate, manoeuvre etc.Can use either 1/4” or 3/8” bits as you can change the attachment on the spindle. As an ex. Tradesman, experienced DIY, this is a very good piece of kit.

A great first Router - does all you could ask.
Wonderful router - so much better than the Bosch it replaced. A very well thought out product. My only gripe (like other reviewers here) is that the spanner storage compartment in the case is NOT well thought out - too easy for the spanners to fall into the void behind it. Aside from that, 100% on price and usability.

Ergonomic to free-hand with, and useful & sturdy guide.
As some other reviews mentioned, the plunge movement is oddly sticky, which is frustrating when you want to eyeball a depth. But 95% of the time it does not get in the way when you are using the depth gauges.Included bits are ok, but replaced them pretty quick. Router itself runs great.

Excellent Makita quality.
Typical Makita quality in this excellent plunge router,Whether you are a DIYer or a pro this will give goodresults. It`s a fact that small routers do more useful work in general than large routers, being easier to controland handle, ladies can also find them useful DIY tools for decorative finishing, where the large routers are unwieldy andmore difficult to handle.

Good quality basic router, but vacuum attachment could be better
Good points: Solidly built in general, and once the depth settings are achieved, the plunge works very well. It is light and manoeuvrable, and comes in a well-thought-out case. Not so good: It is not the easiest router I have used to achieve accurate depth settings, and requires a little trial and error to get it just right (I use a digital caliper to check).Bad point: The vacuum attachment is very poorly designed, and does not lodge securely. The tongue on the end of the attachment is too short and too thin to lock firmly in place, and would have benefited greatly from a tiny bit more plastic in the moulding. I can see it needing replacement before long.
