Q: If i wear 36 inch waist in levi 501 and want to carrie edc what size belt should i get

You will want to consider that your EDC and any additional magazines take up length on your belt. Normally if it were a different brand of belt I'd say add 3-4 inches however this belt is actually much longer than the size it indicates it's fitted for. I ordered the medium and I have about 8 inches of slack. Tip: any remaining portion of the belt can be trimmed to size and a few seconds with a lighter will burn the ends and keep it together. This belt is also stretchy approximately to an inch but it does hold well and only stretches as necessary (when you sit or bend your body)

Q: do they make one with a narrower buckle. It wont pass through the belt loop of aby oif my work pants or other pants!

This is not an ordindary belt. It isn't designed as an ordinary belt. It's designed for utility and the proper pants it is meant to be used with. No narrower options available.
