Astro Tools 78912 Low Profile Ball Joint Separator, Black

Had a stubborn lower ball joint that wouldn't separate on my Ram 2500; Spent 5 min with this guy and popped it off after messing around for days with regular fork type separators. Put a lot of force on it and didn't miss a beat.Have a number of tools from Astro, and for the home mechanic they are tough to beat for price to performance ratio.

I wish I have known about this joint separator before, it makes separating ball joints a snapp.

Used on a 02 explorer lower ball joint that was super stuck and it kept slipping so I used the astro ball joint press to clamp it sideways to stop it slipping which did the trick. The separation was crazy and shook the whole car

This is a great ball joint tool. Fits where others do not. Accepts a wider ball joint stud than pretty much every other one I tried. There was a pitman model that would work but required more disassembly of other parts to fit. This fits with no problem and separates the ball joint. Would recommend over others.

The maximum jaw clearance is 2.5inches with the cap installed on the bolt. You get a tiny bit more if you remove the cap. The more common tools max out at 2.125". I needed a larger tool so this worked great for separating the front control arm lower ball joint from the spindle on a DB9.

I am satisfied with this item.It is very practical instead of hummer some parts that can be damage .

Had to return the item. Tool was too small for the job. Easy with the jokes at this point. But seriously, not made for lower ball joints on a 98 GMC 1500

Good tool when i first got it thought it would easily break but it held up pull the ball joint out no problem

Works great for popping ball joints out of spindles especially suited for fwd or awd

I don't blame the product for not working. The tool was bending when tightened as the ball joint was seized. I saw another identical tool (youtube) with a much large structure to prevent bending but I cannot find a place that sells those. I had to remove the entire front suspension (2011 ford fusion) and pound the ball joint off using a 60 lb. anvil and 10 pound sledge hammer, so under normal circumstances, I think the tool would have worked. I just didn't want to push it.
