The Best Detective Series I've Seen
It is better than "Morse," and even the DEI progression toward the end cannot spoil the work. Kevin Whatley's character evolves so naturally from an underlings in "Morse" into the lead man here (although the film creators may have had to kill his wife for that). I can think of only two TV series that impressed me almost as much, "Monk" and "Tinker, Tailor;" however, "Monk" is partly a cartoon, and "Tinker, Tailor" is a spy drama. Both may be considered a different genre.

Incredibly good spinoff series
It is rare for a spinoff series to be equal in caliber to the original series from which it was inspired. But such is the case for Inspector Lewis. As an avid fan of the Inspector Morse series, I was delighted to return to Oxford for another 33 episodes of murder mysteries when this series was being aired. The chemistry between Whately and Fox is different, but it's just as good as the chemistry that Whately displayed with John Thaw in the original series. The murder plots are intriguing and the character development of the main cast is solid. When the full set of the series came out, this was a "must purchase" for me.

Excellent plots, excellent actors
Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox do justice to the complex plots while creating a partnership that is both 3 dimensional and believable; you are drawn in to the characters and their world. This is one show that ranks in the very top tier making it worth the purchase. If you are a fan of excellent British mysteries, you will rewatch this one for years to come.

Sad to say, even better than Morse
I am a huge Inspector Morse fan-bought the DVD series here on Amazon-every DVD was perfect-used to watch them on PBS but never saw them all-some episodes are better than others but all enjoyable-I will go back watch them again. Never had an opportunity to watch the Lewis episodes until I found them on Prime (or Netflix, forgot which)-got hooked and bought the set here-They are wonderful-even my wife likes them-a different tone than Morse-Keven Whatley just nails the character. It will be sad to finally watch the last episode-Laurence Fox is a superb sidekick to Lewis-what a pleasure to watch these two. BTW, also bought the set of Morse books by Colin Dexter-fun to read them after watching the TV shows!
