Very easy to install, depending on what you're mounting it to
Very easy to install onto the angle iron I had installed on the roof. Only came with two stakes and stake ropes, but those are cheap on Amazon. Material appears sturdy and reliable. I look forward to trying it out. The nuts are 10mm.Edit 2018-07-18: I seem to have found the hardware I thought was missing, so upgrading from 4 to 5 stars. I would trust it more if it came with 4 L-brackets instead of 5, or if at least I could order more seperately, but it doesn't wobble too much. I have been very happy with it over the past year.Make sure you remember to stake the awning down in any winds whatsoever, or it WILL blow away and probably bend the prongs that hold it together. This happened to me, but it was my own fault since I did not stake it down properly. Now I do, and I retract the awning if the wind seems to get above 20MPH or so.

I enjoy my projects and was preparing the mount before the ...
I looked at everything that I could find and this awning was the only one that fit the format that I imagined. I only wanted the 6& 1/2' along the side of the vehicle while appreciating the nearly 10' away as sun shade. I have not used products from the competition so a comparison isn't going to happen. The awning arrived roughly 5 days quicker than advertised as I was preparing the mount. I enjoy my projects and was preparing the mount before the awning arrived but really needed to understand the back (mounting) side of the awning to move forward. I e-mailed Mike for the possibility of a discussion of the info I needed to complete the mounting surface (going on a Subaru Outback next to an Inno cargo box) while waiting for UPS. About 5 minutes later my phone rang and Mike was on the line to give me the info I needed to move forward, also an e-mail with pictures. If the paint on the mount had been dry it would have been installed minutes after delivery thanks to excellent customer care.First impression coming out of the box was that it certainly doesn't take up much space, Uh oh maybe it's cheesy and I made a mistake. But after set-up I'd be a proud engineer to have put it together so nicely with weight, compactness, longevity, durability, cost, etc factors all involved. The awning setup is totally do-able solo, but like so many things much easier w/ two.How will I like it after a windy trip to the desert remains to be seen, but the components appear to be up to the task.I like the format, the price, and the customer service. So far nothing to dislike. Good job Dobinsons and a personal thanks to Mike.

It needs a stronger frame for the Arizona’s Desert winds
Very nice well made but the tubing was bend and the firt wind came and snapped it in half. I hope they can help me with this because I just got this last week and today was my first time using it.#frustated

PRACTICE SETUP BEFORE YOU USE IT TO SEE IF YOU NEED TO ADJUST ANYTHING. - I had to drill holes.
The reason I bought this awning was the extension up to 9.8ft out. Really couldn't find anything else that goes out that far.First star: Receiving. +1Received it early. that's 1 star.Second Star: Damage. -1Looked for damage. The part on the back of the awning itself where the screws slide in to mount to the L brackets were bent in the middle so I couldn't access about 6-8 inches of it. Luckily, I have a full roof rack so I found other mounting points and made it work. Loss of 1 Star.Third star: Install +1Install wasn't too hard. I did it by myself but definitely would've been a piece of cake with help. All the correct brackets and mounting gear were there.Fourth Star: Setup. -1I give this a -1 stars because as my GF and I retracted the awning at full extension, we were dumbfounded at where to insert the poles that extend out from the base of the awning attached on the rack. THERE WERE NO HOLES. THIS MADE IT A PAIN and made us completely embarrassed when setting it up on the beach where beach parking is popular. LUCKILY I had a drill and the correct drill bit and drilled my own holes. It ended up working beautifully after that and install was a breeze after.Fifth star. +2Overall quality of the build is sturdy if those things mentioned above were taken care of. Damage wasn't there fault, but it was a pain to setup initially. Had I not had the drill and drill bit, it probably would've fallen down on us.Ill add photos later.

high quality!
Installed on my FJ cruiser. Very high quality. easy to deploy and stow. I'm surprised Dobinsons isn't a more well known supplier in the states. you will need to modify and fabricate your own mounting brackets if you have a factory roof rack. not difficult to do.Update. Have used this awning a few times now and it is still holding up great! The cover is very good quality. It’s been through 6 or 8 Arizona dust storms and some very heavy rain and wind. My recommendation is keep the zippers and the rear of the vehicle and you will be good to go!

Very simple and cool
I built a rack for the roof of my 4 runner and I added this pull out just to have some shade. Well made and works awesome

Bad Ass Ausie Gear.
Fantastic unit. Easy to install and deploy. Lots of room under this big unit ( I have the large). Kept us dry during snow in 16 degree Fahrenheit weather. Made the trip so much better. Will be getting another for the Safari trailer this summer.

Totally sweet awning fits the back of my Jeep just right
Totally sweet awning fits the back of my Jeep just right! It was put on a Front Runner roof rack with roof runner mounting brackets. Looks exactly like the all the other ones on-line. Has 3 Velcro straps to keep awning tight. Awning cover and case are gray but I spray painted the cover black to match my jeep.
