These Like Everything Else Use To Be Made Much Better Than The Newer Ones!
I purchased one of these several decades ago when I spent the summer in the North Carolina Outer Banks at a friends cottage with a few friends. I was a surfer and skateboarder and I worked at one of the best Surf shops in the world. They only have three locations worldwide, with one in VA Beach and Hawaii. The Nags Head store is the third shop and I loved working there as I got a great discount on clothing and other surf supplies. I saved up enough money that summer to buy my last surfboard and I still have it hanging in our game room. It was the first time I had ever seen this hat and it wasn’t cheap, but I bought it anyway. My discount was 10% off and it was higher for more expensive items like a new board or something similar. The original one is extremely well made and it actually was more expensive then than these are now. It is very well made and has a nice and thick brim and the headband is very well made and has some extra lining inside of it that just made it worth the price. It was also more structural inside the hat and the material was a lot thicker than these. I still have my original one but it is too small now as I guess my head got fat as my stomach got fatter as well over the years. I bought the original one in the summer of 1988, as it was my graduation summer before going to work or college.I have another one that I purchased sometime after moving to Texas when we were in South Padre Island and it was kind of made somewhere in between the original and this newer one. It wasn’t really as well made as the original one, but it also wasn’t as expensive as the original ones either. Both are a kind of a brownish green color and the original one has more structural features and a much better overall finish to it. The brim is very thick and has a green lining under the brim that allows you to train it to stay in shape which makes it a far better design and the overall craftsmanship is superior than the other ones I have purchased.I saw these here on Amazon and thought, I will buy one and see if it fits any better than my second one that I bought in SPI in the late 2000’s. It’s a little tight and it gives me a headache if I wear it too long. So I went completely outside of the box for myself and bought the Blue color and it seems like it’s not as comfortable to wear as the second one I bought in SPI , but my husband can wear it and he needs a good hat for coverage as he was diagnosed with melanoma on his scalp in 2022. So he wears hats all the time now. I’m satisfied with the fact he can wear it and I think he thought he wouldn’t wear it as it just doesn’t seem like something he would wear outside of the house. Unfortunately, everything is now made much cheaper than what it used to be and the price is not bad on this one compared to the one I got in SPI . I guess I just have a big head. The large fits when I cut my hair down really short but it isn’t comfortable for long periods of wearing.I would recommend that anyone who looks at these and can’t decide if they like it or not should try one out for the lower price point on these. I’ve held on to my original one and I have said for over thirty years that I would like to find someone who can make it a little bit larger as it’s probably a collectible piece now. It just seems like things that use to be made very well and usually you paid for that luxury, are now just cheaply made for shorter lifespans and they don’t last long. I’m hoping that this will last for a few years before it starts to come apart like the one that I purchased in SPI . It started to come apart at the seam around the brim and the hat section. It wasn’t exactly cheap either, but I still have it and it’s similar to these in its construction. Since the material is nowhere near as thick as the original one I got as a teenager, I don’t think it offers as much sun protection as it should as the sun is now brutal and I try and stay out of it now.Overall a good hat and something that will last you long enough for the most part. I guess the “new normal” is just that things are made more disposable now than they were when I bought my original version the summer I graduated from high school.

Amplia Protección solar
Ligero, amplio, práctico para cualquier viaje o trabajo de campo. La protección de sol que ofrece es demasiado buena, incluso si hay lluvia no se humedece fácilmente. El color es increíble.
