I love this! I've been using the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale line for a few years now (I still love their Knot Out conditioner and the styling gelee) and I just love the way that they're staying on top of the natural hair trends! Two years ago I noticed that bentonite clay gives my type 4 hair wicked definition, but it was a messy process and a hassle to mix my own clay and let it sit in my hair when I was pressed for time (not to mention worrying about whether it was all washed out!). Someone clearly felt my struggle and created this new line. This cleanser is gentle, has good slip and clumps just like the bentonite clay I used to mix myself. I've been wearing my hair straight (via blow dryer and flat iron) for over a year now and I was shocked by how quickly my curls snapped back. Finger detangling was a breeze and my hair was so soft in the shower I had to double check that I had actually washed all of the cleanser out. Bentonite had always given me good definition, but never such a soft feeling! I used the Clumping Curl Creme Gel in the shower while my hair was still wet and I love the soft, defined curls I have! Of note: if you have a lot of build-up, I would use a clarifying shampoo first before using this cleanser. If you're someone who only uses all natural ingredients, this is not for you. The Au Naturale line was created for women who wear their hair natural (eg without chemical straighteners); this is not a reference to the ingredients used in the product (this still confuses people for whatever reason).This was my first time using these products, but I will update if there's any changes with subsequent uses.

I’m a Caucasian woman with Ashkenazic roots and the coarse, curly hair to show for it. I’ve spent most summers with a frizz halo because my hair tends to get super dry and brittle during this time of year.I decided to switch my routine and added this. While my hair is wet, I use Head and Shoulders conditioner on my scalp first to fight dandruff, but then I pull this stuff through my hair. I make sure not to rake my curls with my fingers and keep my hair together as much as possible. I let the Head and Shoulders conditioner and this product sit in my hair for 5+ minutes while I do other stuff in or out of the shower. When I rinse, I try again to keep my hair together as much as possible.After using this, my hair feels nourished and soft, and the smell is absolutely amazing — like a creamsicle.I follow up with Got2Be Glued mixed with the Dark and Lovely Au Natural creme gel and diffuse it mostly dry. My results are fantastic, even in summer weather, and my hair smells very tropical afterwards.As you probably noticed from my routine above, I get best results if I rarely comb my hair. Because this product keeps your curl pattern together, limiting separation of your hair helps it work its magic. Once everything is dry, my hair lies in big sections of curls and I can bounce around my hair for volume, but I wouldn’t dream of putting a brush through it!

It smells nice and made my hair soft. I bought it to help detangle my hair since people told me about it but it didn't help much with that. I'm 4b/c with very thick hair and it was probably too thick to have an affect on detangling. If you want to use this to soften your hair though, I think it did a great job with that.

I was the only person with such tangly natural hair in my family, & this saved me from years of tears & pain. I recommend it to everyone who has curly hair issues, & everyone so far raves about it. The only exception was my mother, but her hair's been fried from 20+ yrs of bleaching so I don't think it was really anything to do with this product. Ever since I found this 8+ years ago, I've never had to use anything else!! Don't want or need any shampoos or conditioners. I take a bottle of this with me EVERYWHERE I go. I am afro-latina & my hair is about a 3c, but different curled hair types have told me they adore it too.
