Q: Does this work on thick African American hair?

I'm not sure, my granddaughter is African American but doesn't use hair spray, so I can't say it would work. It's a wonderful spray and really holds, so it may be worth a try. I use the Full Control spray.

Have not tried on wet hair, sorry

Q: Does this product cause flaking?

Doesn't for me, been using it for years. However, make sure you don't also use a shampoo/conditioner that dries out your scalp. :)
