Update
I shopped and shopped trying to come up with the best way to finish my acacia butcherblock countertops. I wanted a heat resistant surface and a stain resistant surface. It has been about three months now and I really cannot say enough about Half and Half pure tung oil! Not only is it stain resistant it is grease resistant. I cook on my counters with electric skillets and counters routinely get covered with heavy layer of grease. I used to use Greased Lightning to help cut the grease when I would wipe down counters. With the cured tung oil the grease wipes up super super easily with no chemicals at all! The tung oil simply resists the grease. Liquids bead up, nothing sticks or stains. I love this stuff! The tung oil is naturally amber so it will change the color of the wood but I would recommend this to anyone! Cleans up great; looks great, matte finish; and handles heat great! So glad I have found this!!!

Great Product for our Wood Countertops!
We were delighted with this product that we used to finish our cherry wood countertops (purchased from Lumber Liquidators). It has given us an amazing finish and the wood looks incredible - I'll tell you a bit about our process, what we did right, and what we wish we had done differently below. What We Wish We Had Done Differently:*I was under the impression that this product would cover 400 sf, one time. We have about 50 sf of countertop, and wanted to do 2-3 coats underneath, and several coats on top, so I purchased two gallons. We did 2-3 coats underneath and 7-8 on top, and have used a total of about half a gallon.*The citrus smell is overpowering. I wish we had applied it outside, allowed it to dry, and then installed the countertops. While it's not bad once the oil has dried, when it's fresh, and you're applying several coats inside your main living area, the smell of oranges permeates everything, and it made me nauseous.*I wish I had purchased some of the straight Tung oil, as is recommended by the manufacturer. We did do something else, which I am very happy with and will tell you about below.Things We Did that Worked Well*Choose this product. The finish is beautiful, appears durable, and sheds water very well.*We applied several coats as recommended by the manufacturer, then we melted some beeswax into this product and made a paste wax, which is what we did our final coats with and the subsequent applications. We are currently reoiling every 1-2 weeks.*Apply straight beeswax to seams, knot holes and the inside edge of the sink cutout (our sink is an undermounted farm sink). We are very happy that we did enough research to find this product and spent the extra money on it. You will be too!

Talk about a easy to apply high quality finish
We are in the process of completely remodeling our kitchen and decided on wood butcherblock counter tops. My wife and daughter did alot of research and found this was one of the best finishes we could use. And it is. We are so happy with the finish. throw water on it and it just beads up. Waterproof for sure. Which is very useful in a kitchen counter.i can't say it's a hard finish as I did put a tiny dent in the counter after dropping my tape measure from a distance (don't tell my wife), but it is hard to notice, but this does seem to make the material at least a little more durable. Course even poly is not 100% protective. My wife also liked the fact that is SO much easier to apply then wipe on poly. It's like thick water, so it goes on real nice. She wants to use it on the basement wood ceiling I just put it because it's easier. The only downside we found (though NOT a fault of the product), is that you can not use the surface for at least a week, so you have to be prepared to let it sit. And a full cure is 30 days. Just something to keep in mind. Even still, it's worth the wait, we love it.

Citrus solvent odor can get pretty strong.
Probably best to use with the windows cracked open a little. Makes. The butcher block countertop, much easier to clean as it prevents food residue from being absorbed into the wood. It’s probably best to wipe things up quickly, though. It smells beautiful as the Orange odor subsides.

Makes old and new wood look more expensive and beautiful
Used this to redo an outside cedar deck. Washed the deck then applied with a roller. Went on easily and made the wood look luxurious. Rain came a day later and it beaded up as i was hoping. I'll apply another coat before winter when i have good weather again. The cedar deck almost matched my indoor walnut floors. They looked so much more finished than before i applied the product. Gave a gallon to my neighbor who finished an outdoor table. I don't have the pics, but it looked beyond nice after 1 coat. I've used this product on my indoor unfinished wood floors as well (walnut). Love this product and keep a few gallons on hand since it can be used to touch up wood which has already been treated with tung oil. Darker side in the pic is where the oil was applied.

worth the wait
UPDATE: Third picture shows area that gets drenched with water regularly. 6 months later, looks as good as new. Still love this tung oil product!I used this product on new baltic birch butcher block. I started with making my cuts to fit the cabinets and sink. Then sanded the entire piece with 220 sand paper and wiped it clean. Placing the pieces on semi-permanent blocks, I heated the room, 75-85*F, let them acclimate to our dry desert air. Next morning I followed the directions on the bottle. I put three coats on by that night(top, bottom, and sides) and then another coat in the morning. I kept the room warm, opened windows from time to time and had the fan going. The curing process NEEDS FRESH AIR, Oxygen, The warmer and fresher the air, the better and faster the cure will be. I left them alone for 9 days, then installed them. They were still slightly oily, but easy to work around. By day 15, they are dry.I'm happy with the scent, and water beads off well.I used a total of 1/2 gallon for 38sq ft, but that was for tops and bottoms. Maybe overkill. The end result was just what we wanted.
