Works Great
I purchased this siphon when I got my generator last year. It is so simple and so awesome!I had a generator full of 8 gallons gas plus another 15 gallons in cans. I had to dump the gas after a few months (yes, I used fuel stabilizer) so it wouldn't go stale. This device let me drain the generator so I could run out the last few ounces with without wasting much gas. I also siphoned the three 5 gallon cans into my car. Without the siphon I would have had to hold up and balance the cans which are about 40 lbs when full.Let the tubing air dry before storing. How it works:The receiving container must be lower that the source. You insert the brass end into the gas source you want to drain. Insert the tubing end into the container you want to fill. Jiggle the brass valve up and down a couple of inches, making sure it stays in the gas.The gas inches up the tubing and eventually starts to siphon. The valve allows the gas to go up but not back as you shake the tubing up and down. The key is finding a rhythm - not too fast, not too slow, and keeping the valve fully immersed in the gas. What it does not do:1. You can not siphon gas from a car fuel tank. There is a valve in the fill tube that will prevent you from inserting a tube into the gas tank.2. It is not very fast. takes about3. The valve will not work unless it stays immersed in the gas. It is virtually impossible to siphon from a nearly empty tank.GAS IS DANGEROUS. BE CAREFUL.

Works quickly to transfer gas from container to car.
I had purchased a no-spill gas can that came with an extension tip which then you would have to press a button to release the gas flow. Adding gas to my car with that gas can which was a 5 gallon container took forever to tranfer the gas. After a while of holding that amount of gas up while pressing a button will fatigue anyone. It took about 10 minutes to transfer that amount of gas. I then searched for a tube to try to help transfer the gas faster and came to this item on Amazon. Since I had purchased a Hopkins product recently and was very happy with it I then decided to give this product a try. Wow, I could not believe how easy and convenient it is using this siphon tube. Since I knew the gas can had to be higher than the gas hole in my car I decided to place my gas can on top of my car. I have a RAV4 with a roof rack so I was comfortable leaving it up on my car. I then placed the metal side of the tubing into the gas can and placed the other end of the tubing into the gas hole. Once everything was set I then began shaking the tube up and down and within 3 seconds I began to see the fuel being sucked through the tubing and going into my car. I then noticed there was a rapid clicking noise which was the ball bearing in the metal part of the tubing moving which indicated to me fuel was passing through. As fuel was being transferred I then held the gas can at an angle so that every drop was taken out. Before I know it the fuel had completely transferred into my car with none left in the gas can. All taking about a minute. Not only was it transferred quickly but I did not have to hold it up during the transfer. This was the cheapest siphon at the time of purchase and I'm glad I chose another Hopkins product. Very helpful piece of equipment to have around. Highly recommend.

Simple-Reliable
I have purchased a number of these siphons and use them regularly. The hose quality is good, but the "valve" is what makes this unit worth buying. The metal one-way valve has what appears to be a glass marble as the moving part, and the marble moves freely, unlike the ones on the cheaper units. Getting the fuel flowing is as simple as rapidly jiggling the hose up and down with the valve end submerged in the fuel, and the other end of the hose at a lower level inserted into whatever container you want to put the siphoned fuel into. There are some complaints in reviews regarding using this unit to siphon fuel from car gas tanks, This siphon really is not designed to be inserted into a car gas tank through the unleaded fuel restrictor-opening which is too small in diameter for the valve end. You can get in through the opening in the car gas tank, but can easily pull the valve end off when trying to take the unit back out. It does work for older cars from the pre-unleaded fuel days, or for tractors, construction equipment, garden tools etc. This siphon works very well for most other types of containers with larger openings. Things like motorcycle fuel tanks, gas cans, metal liquid cans, aquariums etc. The flow rate of this unit is much higher that for those little bulb-pump style units. The higher that the liquid being pumped is above the receiving container, the faster the liquid flow.Good, simple product that is easy to use.

Two little downsides, but great nonetheless
I went through 3 different ez-flow guns (the red plastic hand pumps) and each time, after maybe 6 months, they would start to leak and put fuel all over my garage floor when pumping. So I tried to find an alternative but most sturdier pumps are for drums, and I needed one for small jerrycans. This is a miracle! It's much faster than the hand pump, easier, cleaner. There are two negatives, so be aware if one of them is an issue for you:1- The "pump" needs to be inside the can, which means that when you're done, it has fuel on it. Not much, but enough to smell if you're inside your garage. If it's outside or well vented, no problem.2- It doesn't siphon completely the jerrycan, there is maybe 1/2" left at the end, just enough to require to empty that manually. I will try to see if I can add a little piece of hose to the end of the pump and have it empty everything... but as-is, it doesn't empty it completely.Aside from that, it's really marvelous, no gaskets or parts to break, all metal, awesome!

Brilliant
Simply amazing! I hate using Jerry cans as the fuel nozzles tend to leak as the gasket goes, and if your using the EPA fuel nozzles it's a royal pain in the butt. Now I just prop up the Jerry can, insert the shaker funnel, shake the hose up and down and voila a mins later the fuel has been transferred.Must have for anyone refueling their vehicles or aren't into off-roading!! Also works great for siphoning girls form your motorcycle to another strands dbuddy to get him home.
