5-Minute Modern-Day Bedtime Stories: For Building Character: (Read Alouds for Kids Ages 4-8) Paperback – July 31, 2020

I've never heard of this title and stumbled upon it on my amazon quest for some other educational book I was seeking, but it sounded intriguing so I thought I'd try it. I have kindle unlimited (which this is currently included-09/30/20), but ordered the hard copy out of preference. It comes in paperback and is smaller than I expected. It was grouped with the 5-minute fairytale stories that are usually large square books, but this is an average sized paperback. It has 97 pages and includes 14 stories to cover 14 virtues of character: 1) Self-Control, 2) Foresight, 3) Persistence, 4) Honesty, 5) Positivity, 6) Prioritization, 7) Cleanliness, 8) Obedience, 9) Joy, 10) Helpfulness, 11) Self-Control, 12) Hard Work, 13) Kindness, and 14) Honesty. *Note* It advertises 14 traits, but when writing this review, I realized it repeats 2, so it really has 12 as it repeats self-control and honesty. Before writing this review, I took a few minutes to read a story at random to screen it for my child and I liked it. I thought it was cute, it does take roughly about 5 minutes to read, and thought it would be understandable for kids as young as 5. As my oldest is 5, I don't know what age I would recommend for older, but the story was about 2 boys in an arcade for a birthday party, playing a virtual game, when one of the boy's lied in the game and he lost because of his lies; so I'd guess a 10 year old would like it too. The discussion questions provided are relevant and thought-provoking enough, but I haven't tried them out on my child yet so I don't know if those would be suitable for a 5 year old's comprehension, but you could always modify. Without reading the rest of the book, I would recommend.

I really enjoyed reading this book to my son. The stories were up to date and taken from classic stories. My son who is nine enjoyed listening to these stories and they were great examples to learn from. We both appreciateed the fun question and the serious discussion at the end of each chapter. My son wanted me to include his review - "The stories were very meaningful."I highly recommend this book to parents to end the day with with a fun thoughtful book.

This book is nice but I was planning to give it as a gift. It looks to simple to me so I decided to returned it and order another book that I already owed but in a different language.

Great book for bedtime to open conversations with child

This book is exactly what I was looking for. It has modern stories not the same old recycled bedtime stories. After I was done reading the 1st story to my sons (4&5), they asked me to read another one. I loved the story too. It kept them engaged. The book has no pictures so they had to use their imagination. At the end of the story I discussed the 2 questions that were provided. They had fun answering them.I absolutely recommend this story book. It is not overwhelming long (for parents) like some bedtime stories can be. It has some larger vocabulary words here and there which I loved because it will help kids expand their vocabulary (example recite, demanded) but the stories are simple enough for little kids to understand. After writing this review I am going to check if this author has any other bedtime books to purchase. My kids are excited for tomorrow's story!

Book stories are good but endings are poor. Book says 4-8 year olds. Well, I read to a 4 1/2 year old and he had a hard time following, I had to explain too much and even skipped some areas as her writing was much too complicated. Liked the questions at end of each story. I think this book should be for 8 year olds. Not for younger children as bedtime stories.

We got this for our son for Christmas and I have been reading one story at a time at each night. He really loves it, I love the questions at the end of each story! The questions really help your child understand the story more!

My daughter and I read one story every night. She is 9 and loved the book. Highly recommend.
