Quality
This is my third pair that I have ordered probably over last 12 years. In my opinion they don't need breaking in but I do recommend ordering at least 1/2 to full size over what you usually wear. I order a full size over and is perfect for my foot. At least that works best for me, especially if you wear thicker socks. I've never had a blister from wearing these and I've hike some pretty steep and rugged terrain. Yes they are waterproof and never a wet foot. These are typical German quality in my opinion.

Good boots
I have had my Lowa's for a week. It only took a couple of days to break them in. This is the first time of purchasing the Lowa brand, and even though I was not happy with the price, being I have an A width foot, it was really one of three boots I have found that was worth the try. My last pair was a Merrill boot, I had bought two pair and they lasted about ten years. I wear them during the fall and winter months daily for work and pleasure. Usually during the spring and summer I were Nike running/walking shoes. Unfortunately Merrill does not have a B width that I could find, so I had to move on.Any way most boot makers don't think about narrow footed customers and finding A or B widths are next to impossible. So far the Lowa's have been excellent. They fit well right out of the box. They cinch up fairly snug and are comfortable. They keep feet warm and dry. From what I can tell the construction is top notch. Being in Oklahoma, I don't have a lot of hiking trails to take off on, but I do walk a lot on gravel and uneven ground at work, and these fit the bill. The only reason I can't give the boots a 5 star rating at this time,is because of the price of the boot. I want to see for my self how long they last, and if I can get the same wear as I did with the Merrill's, then they will have earned a five star rating from me. Time will tell, so far, I am very happy with my purchase and the quality of the product. This is my second pair of Lowa's. I have been wanting a brown pair, but did not want to pay over 200 like I did the last pair. I waited a year before they went on sale, and then pulled the trigger. This pair fits just like the pair last year. Comfortable right out of the box. I can now give this boot a five star rating. No complaints what so ever. Highly recommend them.

Great company to work with
Lowa makes a great high quality boot. This one is no exception. I considered returning it because at the time it arrived I had very bad foot blisters and foot pain and so it didn't seem to fit right. The issue was mine, not the boot. But the company was really good in granting me enough time to return and given the extra time my foot healed and I found the boot to be comfortable and as a result I ultimately decided to keep the product. Theirgraciousness is another reason to buy this product from them.

My review of the Lowa Renegade GTX
Hi. This is my 2nd pair of the Lowa Renegades. I would recommend siziing up. I ordered this boot 1/2 side bigger and in a wide. It's gets cold and wet in the midwest, so I wear a thick wool sock. I also have high arches. I also have a pair of the Lowa Rangers. While the Ranger is made in Germany, the Renegade's are made in Slovakia. Both are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn! I have read many reviews on the Renegades. Some individuals complain about Goretex being too warm. Again, I'm living in the midwest and we have sloppy weather. I wear them year round. I walk the dog in them in all kinds of weather. I like the protection from the elements. With the wool sock, my feet are not too cool, warm. or wet. Some individuals complain about the soles wearing out. Mine lasted 1 year. But again, I wear them everyday. I try not to buy items from the countries that seem to make everything nowadays. In the past, I have bought boots just as or more expensive, but not nearly as comfortable and wore them out just as quickly. These boots are not heavy, very light, but give great support and comfort. They are very quiet. They are NOT mountain climbing boots! There were some individual reviews complaining that they will look dirty after wearing them. My response is that if you are wearing them hiking, on trails, or taking the dog out, they are going to get dirty. I use Grangers wax on them. They haven't leaked yet! With the wax on, they wipe off pretty easily. If you don't want them to get dirty, stay inside and wear them in your apartment or house! Your boots will stay clean. I always wear out the heels of my shoes/boots. If you want a boot with a harder wearing sole, try the Rangers. The Rangers are heavier, but the soles will last longer. Overall, this is one of the most comfortable boots you will ever slip on your feet.
