I bought this lab coat to be part of a mad scientist costume, but I'd like to stress that it looks very classy and professional. I could imagine an actual dentist wearing this.The polyester blend fabric looks sturdy, and yet it feels very soft to the touch: I'm guessing it must have a pretty high thread count.I cut two small holes on the inner surface of the coat, which was the only modification I needed to run an elastic drawstring through the double-walled "back belt" area. This allowed me to customize the fit to be a little slimmer in back. If I hadn't had to cut the holes myself, I might almost have thought that's the intended purpose of the "back belt": it makes a perfect channel for a drawstring.

Used this for a Doctor Horrible themed costume and another scientist themed costume and I'm still satisfied with how it looks. I got the extra small since I am tiny, and boy am I glad I did, a small would have been huge on me! The pockets are large and quite useful, I had my backpack as well at the time but I was constantly putting things in my pockets regardless. You are going to have to iron it when you first get it, but it holds up well to folding and unfolding for transit in a packed bag.Cosplayer/Costuming note:I am a bust 34' unbound and the extra small works great for that size too (although I wouldn't do a male character like that). I pinned my badge to a pocket and had gloves in another one and my phone in the breast pocket, it was very functional to the great look. Material is solid too, I was impressed, not that heavy either, but it will still shield you from light wind so be careful wearing this on hot days.

Bought this for my daughter's Dr. Horrible costume. The style is quite close and, as it is a real lab coat and not just a costume, it has an authentic look to it. The weight of the material is great (not see through). I was unsure which size to purchase and went with a small based on the size chart and other reviews. I wish I had bought a medium instead as the small is a little tight through the hips. My daughter wears a women's size 6/8 depending on brand and style. We are both generally happy with it and will keep it as we need it for Halloween.

Ok so to-be-fair, I do not believe the other reviews (that I read before buying this product) are quite accurate. I bought this for use as an actual functional laboratory coat. I have much experience using laboratory coats, and can tell you that the material is high quality and plenty 'thick' enough. There is something odd that I need to mention - I used the sizing chart and decided that I needed a large (although there was debate ranging from medium to extra large). I ordered a large, and after trying it on, I decided to order an extra large just to compare and see what is best. The extra large gave more comfort and flexibility, but there were HUGE differences in actual coat details between the large and extra large:1. The large has an 'inner flap' that allows you to have the 'outer flap' open, and still be protected.2. The large is made of slightly thicker (albeit noticeable) material.3. The large has two bottom pockets, where the extra large has only one.4. The upper pocket on the large has a snap button to protect things from falling out if you bend over (the extra large does not).5. The large has a more detailed/extended collar that goes up your neck (which I really really wish the extra large had).6. They appear to come from different companies (the extra large is distinctly Dr. James brand).Overall, the large was nicer, but for me I needed functionality so I went with the extra large. Odd that there are so many differences just between two sizes.

Within five minutes of opening this to try it on, four of the buttons had fallen off (not opened, they fell off the coat!)The fabric feels decent. I’ll return it for another one but given this experience i don’t have high hopes

I was pleasantly surprised that the coat was just a tidge roomy...usually clothing items tend to run smaller than advertised. This item gave enough room to move in, didn't strain at the snaps, and allowed for warmer clothing to be worn underneath comfortably. The coat was professional-grade and caused our family physician to ask where we got it. This is a great item and I highly recommend it for med staff or costumer alike.
