This is a very durable metal dog door. Most are plastic and I wanted the metal one to eliminate the risk of it breaking with dog's "launching" out the dog door. The door has an all metal frame and a heavy duty plastic flap for the door that has a magnet on the bottom to keep it closed. I seems to seal fairly well so we can keep the door open without losing much air conditioning or heat. It also has a hard pvc insert that you can put in to keep the dogs outside. Installation - The biggest challenge is cutting the hole in the door - I used a jigsaw, but make sure you have the right kind of blade - my door was wood encased in metal so I needed a metal saw blade. If you do it accurately, then you don't need to drill as big of holes for the nuts and bolts that secure the door. Installation directions are decent, but the template could be improved.The only issue was that I ordered a white color door and received a silver colored one that wouldn't match my door. Amazon offered to send me another IF I returned the first one. I told them that I really didn't really want to return it due to the hastle and I could really just paint it. They also offered me a credit (for paint and my time) if i kept it and chose to paint it. I chose to keep it and paint it. Not bad and the door ended up only costing me half as much even though I had to paint it which wasn't too bad.I would HIGHLY recommend this dog door! You will not be disappointed. Very durable and looks really good. I am happy with my purchase!

I've installed several pet doors for myself and friends. In the past I'd used PetSafe, but they changed the design from a slide-down cover to this chintzy clip on cover! And the price for the PetSafe medium size is $15 higher than Ideal's medium! I'm very happy I went with Ideal this time. Just as sturdy and nice looking as PetSafe, and the door cover (for night time and vacation) slides down and locks in to place, instead of clipping over like the new PetSafe design.Install tip!! Use 2" of painters tape all around the template before cutting your hole. This will keep the jigsaw from marring your door.Cat tip. The medium is perfect size for cats. Took our new cat maybe three very brief training sessions (just a minute or two three times over a 24 hour period) and she now can go in and out of our screen porch with ease.

We have a 4 yo chihuahua, and we always had to get up to let her in or out the door to the entertainment room in the evenings. We decided to try the pet door after reading some reviews. Simple installation. We enticed Gamma with some treats a couple of times until she understood how it worked. Within an hour or so, she had adopted it as her door. We’re delighted. She really seems to enjoy the freedom it gives her to come and go as she pleases.

A handyman I hired had to jerry-rig it as it came with no hardware, and I opened it after return window because it took me a while to find a handyman reference from friends. If I ever order anything “open box” I will try to open it upon receipt immediately to check that it has all the parts it says it does. Anyway, its’ a nice door now that this guy spent a while going through his stuff to find screws and such to make it work in my door.

The pet door is exactly what I wanted. My dog is 25 lbs and easily uses the size medium. The slide closure works well and the door itself is sturdy. The medium appeared too small when I opened the box but went ahead with the installation since the door installer said it would be ok. I did not do the installation so unable to comment on that

This door was very easy to install and is a good quality door. I like the aluminum frame because I have an old plastic one that eventually cracked. My dog is on the line as far as weight limit (35lbs) and I bought the medium door. Sadly, I had to return the door with my dog still in it. :( Well, ok I kept the dog, but I had to size up for her. I will use the smaller door for my Shih-Tzu who is 15 lbs. It seems more like the right size for a 15 to 20 lb dog. At least I needed two pet doors. I am returning the small door of another brand that I bought for my Shih-Tzu. Just saying..size up, not down if your pet is on the line.

We installed two of these for our cats, figuring the clear flap would be easy for them to get used to. They have been used to going through a cat door with nothing there. They have not liked the flap at all so we finally removed it. These doors are not wide so if you have a big cat you might want to look elsewhere. They also don’t have a very nice finished look. We went and bought some trim pieces at the hardware store and glued them around the front to make it look like a door. Someone will eventually make a cute cat door for cats 15 pounds and up that looks like a door on both sides.

I like this item, installation was straightforward and didn’t take very long. (Having power tools on hand didn’t hurt anything.) I looks nice enough, as I expected, and it feel.s like it will last us quite a while. It would’ve been nice if it had channels for the lock out panel on both inside and outside, like some doors do, but that’s a very minor concern.Now my dogs can come and go as they please, so we’re all happier!
