I use this to set the color in my hair when I color it at home. I assembled it in no t8me flat. I love that it extends out comfortably over my chair so I can sit in my office chair while waiting for my hair to set. Because I have thick hair it takes me 40 minutes no matter what kind of dryer I use and with this my hair comes out softer. I have used it twice now since I do my hair about once a month and my daughter has used it once. We have both been pleased. I wish the base was sturdier but it is better than the last dryer I had which tipped over and broke the face plate. This one is much sturdier.

This steamer is terrible! I don't know where to start. I bought it because it matches the aesthetics of my salon, but it's not worth it. The first steamer I ordered was defective, with an uneven steam flow that burned my clients' ears on one side due to too much steam coming out on the right side but not the left, plus non-stop leaking.They sent videos to help troubleshoot the leaking issue, but none of the solutions worked. They then sent out a replacement steamer, which is even worse than the original one. It leaks regardless of how much water is in it and has become a significant inconvenience. It takes up a lot of my time waiting for it to start steaming and dealing with the constant clean-up and mopping because of the leaks.Having to deal with this all day, every day is too much, especially considering the price I paid for this steamer. I take 5-10 clients daily, and I have to wait 5-10 minutes for each client just for the steamer to start working. I'm confused as to why it's not functioning properly, especially since this is supposed to be a replacement. It feels like I've been sent another defective steamer. I'm over it, and it's not worth the trouble buying this steamer.

The Melissa Hair Steamer is wonderful. I researched this product for quite some time. My hair is natural and my stylist has a hair steamer in her salon which I use at every appointment. The conditioning steam treatment cost $$20.00 not including my wash, blow-dries and curls so I had to find a way to reduce my cost per visit. The steamer leaves my hair feeling so soft and very manageable. I have two daughter ages 12 & 8, every time I wash their hair they go right under the steam machine.Purchasing this product is worth the investment. I've had this machine for almost TWO months and I've already started saving money. I still go to the salon for a simple wash but not as often since I have the Melissa Hair Steamer!!!The key to wonderfully, amazing soft hair is to purchase a good quality conditioner and stay under the steamer for AT LEAST 25 minutes. FYI..I use Design Essentials products which are amazing for women with natural hair!!!I HOPE THIS REVIEW HELPS FOR THOSE ON THE FENCE!!!

I have owned this steamer since April 2011, so it is going on three years old as of the date of this review. The steamer was in new condition when I opened the package. Despite the scant assembly instructions that were included in the packaging, I did not experience any problems putting the steamer together (although after all these years I still do not know what the two buttons on the back are for-- I just turn them both to the "on" position before setting the timer). I use this steamer about twice a month and it has held up over time and continues to function well. I have noticed that the overflow jar can take on a cloudy hue but I hand wash it from time to time with bleach/water solution and that helps to make it more clear. (This is a minor issue in my opinion and I only make mention of it because some other reviewers have noted it.)When I first started using this steamer I found that the steam was not reaching my hair near the nape of my neck. To remedy this I sat on a pillow to make myself sit little higher under the hood, (For context, I am 5'6" and sit in an office chair when using the steamer. I use this same chair for my hooded dryer and it is of appropriate height.) Then I remembered that the steamer is adjustable and after lowering it just a bit, I no longer have to use the pillow and my entire head gets the benefits of the steam. Sitting higher in the unit also provides the added benefit of a steam facial. I find the steam output to be appropriate to steam my hair and face (but I have never used another steamer so I really have no point of comparison). For those of you who want to increase the steam it may be helpful to close the vents on the front of the hood so that no steam escapes. All in all this product works as advertised by providing moisture to my hair and enhancing deep conditioning treatments in the convenience of my home.

Do not buy this product. It leaked the first time I used it all over my floors. I had a protective hairstyle and removed my braids in February. I was so excited to use my steamer. What a waste of money. It was over 30 days, which was my mistake. When I contacted company, no response. If I could give no stars I would. Run do not buy.

No written instructions on how to put together. Not difficult but written instructions would have made it easier. Still not sure I put the wire piece on correctly. Works great though and nice and sturdy. I paid 25.00 per treatment at hair salon. It pays for itself quickly

I bought this steamer ;to be honest cause it was a lot cheaper than the mist steamer which I had but took back to buy a cheaper steamer to only than take the cheaper one back to get the more expensive one back again. Smh, If I was using the steamer for myself I wouldn’t have a problem using this one, but I’m a hairstylist and I couldn’t have my client’s neck burning from the steam that’s what happened even with a Towel around the neck. And I was scared it would tip over splashing hot water on my client . If you are using the steamer for yourself it’s not bad , it doesn’t have a lot of features like the mist does. If you want a steamer for your clients BEWARE research somewhere else. It took 3 months researching for a steamer and I spent 700 dollars for one , well worth it I must say . I got my money back from those steam treatments for sure. Good luck.
