These work.
We've had the chrome version on two other vehicles, and I can say without hesitation that they work. We are in a deer-dense portion of rural Middle TN. When we first moved here, we had close call after close call after close call. We got these, and we have had zero incidents in ten years. Not even a single close call. Highly recommend.NOTE: you MUST install them so air can freely pass through, and you MUST install both of them. Each one is pitched slightly different, and it's the dissonance between the two pitches that alerts the deer.

Your best defense against kamikaze deer
OK, as promised, I'm back a year later to amend my review to add that in the past year, I have had NO further problems with kamikaze deer leaping in front of me. The deer mating season has just ended and all is well. My experience has been that these things don't actually scare deer away (I don't think they ever promised to) but they do call the deer's attention to the fact that you are there. Most of the time they just stand staring at you calmly as you pass. Which is a lot better than dashing madly out in front of you like they usually do! I'm definitely recommending them to everyone (I also gave a pair to our mail-carrier, mentioned below, and I've put them on all my loved-ones' cars, too!)---original review follows---First of all: No device can ever be a substitute for being alert, paying attention to the road, and having fast reflexes while driving! That said, however, when a 600 pound deer leaps out of the trees and lands ten feet in front of your bumper, there isn't really a lot you can do - it's over before your brain even registers that it happened. After my truck was towed to the shop for extensive repairs (thank goodness nobody was hurt) (well, excepting the deer, of course) I had near misses with two more deer in as many weeks while driving a borrowed car. Since they were running across open fields this time, I was able to see them and stop in time - but even so, the second one actually ran smack into the front of the car even though I had brought it to a complete stop! That same week I encountered our mail-carrier driving a car with a very famliar-looking bashed-out front fender. She had the same story to tell: she had managed to bring her car to a complete stop and the stupid creature still ran smack into her car.I felt like I was being stalked by giant vermin with hooves! I was a nervous wreck - I would slam on my brakes whenever a leaf blew across my headlights, and tan-colored mailboxes at the side of the road would make my heart stop.SO I ordered a set of these "deer whistles" for every car in my family. Naturally everyone had heard that "they probably don't work" but I figured, for the price, it can't hurt to try anyway. Besides, they look kind of cool :) Oh, and for what it's worth, they are very easy to attach - no drilling is necessary.I have not seen any suicidal deer heading for my vehicle since then, though that may just be a coincidence. However, I have noticed that the neighbors' dogs don't chase my car anymore. They just get very confused looks on their faces and gaze up at me sadly as I drive by. Also I have noticed that when driving past folks out riding their horses on the sides of the road, some of the horses dig in their heels and refuse to move until I am past (so if you are the young man who keeps kicking his horse when I drive by, thinking it's just being stubborn, I apologize. I just don't want to die with a lap full of glass and venison, so give your pony the benefit of the doubt - he's really being a good boy!)I will definitely come back and post if ... I mean when! ... I get a chance to see how the whistles affect actual deer.

Good protection
The deer honestly stop and look where the sound is coming from. I've had many deer turn and run or stop in its tracks. So for me it's a great product and worth the price

No deer problem since started using
Easy to install and seem to be attached securely enough to stay on indefinitely. No deer problem since they’ve been installed.

Can tell it actually works!
To start off, I work 4 nights a week on the road for 5-6 hours each night. I live in a small town and spend a lot of my time on the road in the country. After hitting a deer last year and seeing so many this year, in October I decided to purchase these for our main car. After installing these, in less than 7 days, I physically watched 5 different deer look straight at me and then they ran in the opposite direction away from my car! That is too much of a coincidence for me to believe that they dont work. I will never own a vehicle without purchasing these to install on them. And my kids will recieve them for their vehicles, as well, once the time comes around.First and foremost, these are NOT a stop all. You should still exercise caution and be defensive while driving. But these whistles do provide some relief in the back of my mind. From what I could find online, there is not enough airflow below 30MPH for them to work. They must be installed properly. I cleaned where I was putting them with alcohol. They only stick once and will not come off if you place them where you dont want them. Put them as close to the front of your car as possible (I own a newer Ford Fusion, so I had to stick mine inside the front of my car). Make sure to place them on each side according to the package. Blow in them, and the closed one will whistle while the open one won't.I also cannot hear these with my windows down. This was a great purchase, and I'm sure I'll be buying many more over the years.

They're fine
Deer warning whistles all work the same, hard to give any of them anything other than a 3. They're easy to install, and they do what they're supposed to. You can keep the base on the car and slide off just the whistle when you go through a car wash. You have to drive about 30 mph for the whistling to engage. It's a loud whistle, not like a dog whistle, but you're still fighting road noise if there are a lot of cars on the road.Note that the 2 whistles are different because they're meant to be directional, as in guiding the deer towards the right side of the road (or reverse installation if you drive on the left side of the road where you live). If you install them the wrong way, the deer will be guided to the left side of the road and potentially fighting oncoming traffic. So that's why.No, this will not guarantee a deer will not hit your car. First, if a deer is about to cross the road (i.e. running orthogonal to your direction), then the deer is not experiencing the effect of both whistles. If the deer is straight ahead of you on the road, then yes, that's the proper use case scenario. But not all deer will necessarily get out of the way. They may be too startled by you coming at them at high speed or by your blinding headlights. You still have to drive smart and slow down if you see a deer on the road. Be smart. But these are so cheap anyway, and they could only help, I don't see why everyone shouldn't own these if they encounter a lot of deer where they live.
