A lifesaver when needed
My husband needed this after all the operations he had over the last couple of years. He had problems being able to get down low enough on the toilet seat and this helped a great deal. He doesn't have to use it anymore now, so we put it away for now, who knows when you'll ever have to use it again or maybe another family member may need it. It worked great for us.

Great for post surgical needs
Had hip replacement surgery and had to raise the toilet seats for recovery. We have elongated bowls. Many of the risers I found did not leave you a very large opening into the toilet or you couldn't use a standard toilet seat on them. This does both. We did have to get a new seat as the old ones on the toilets didn't hold on with the right kind of screw. But the new seats were simple to find at Home Depot (and similar). These gave great height, was nice to have a real toilet seat you can close, and they feel very sturdy. Note: if you also have the higher style toilet - this will REALLY get you up there. No problem for someone with long legs (me), but my short leg hubby wasn't as excited about these as I was - LOL! They also are easy to clean. Never thought I'd be reviewing toilet seat risers...but life is weird!!

2 simple fixes to (hopefully) eliminate 2 of the negative features noted in comments on this and other toilet elevator product.
I purchased this product for an upcoming hip surgery. I checked the fit and it is an almost perfect match for my Kohler elongated toilet and the inside dimension of the elevator was just a bit smaller than the inside dimensions of the bowl. If this had not been the case I could not have successfully formed the drip described later. I noticed some of the comments on how the bolts can loosen with use and how "stuff" can seep into the small space between the toilet bowl top and the bottom of the elevator. I am an engineer so I took on the challenge. I obtained some white silicone sealant and laid a small bead of sealant forming a "drip" around the elevator along the inside lower edge of the seat (extending and mimicking the small drip that is molded into the bottom of the elevator near the front). I then went to a local hardware store and obtained some Locking nuts for the bolts included with the elevator (these nuts are the kind with the nylon ring made into the top of the nut). The thread on my bolts is metric 10mm diameter with a 1.5mm pitch. These locking nuts were found locally at Tractor Supply Co. for about a dollar. Any good hardware store can match a proper locking nut to your bolt if you show it to them. It now works great. if liquid splashes on the inside of the elevator it will flow downward and drip off the "drip lip" into the bowl rather than seep into the space between the elevator and the top of the toilet bowl. I ran a few tests with a bottle of water and it performed perfectly. I could have sealed the elevator to the toilet bowl top with the sealant, but this would have made periodic cleaning more difficult, and required removal and reapplication of sealant after every cleaning. Also, if sealed to the bowl, any motion getting on and off the seat could break the seal and the seepage would return. My hip surgery is scheduled for the end of the month so I will update my review when I have more "battlefield experience". PS This solution will not prevent liquid from getting between the surfaces if the water rises to the top of the bowl.

Not a substitute for a comfort height or ADA toilet
Since swapping out a toilet is sort of a big deal, it certainly made sense on first glance to try this. Unfortunately, this product won't save you from buying a new toilet, unless you only need a quick fix for a few weeks.Inevitably, the long bolts loosen over time, and the whole seat shifts around - with very annoying and even dangerous consequences for toilet users. I had to keep retightening the bolts every week or two. I used a few layers of duct tape to make an extra set of soft washers (they only give you one pair), which I'm hoping will keep the bolts from loosening so quickly.Cleaning is also a problem. You can partially clean around the front part of the riser, but there are spots you can't get to...and the result can get pretty disgusting. You have to take the whole thing apart in order to clean thoroughly. In short: don't waste your time or money on this. Just suck it up and buy a new comfort or ADA toilet. Even if you think you won't need it for long...eventually, if you plan on getting old, you will. I seriously wonder why standard height toilets are even a thing.

Solved a problem
My wife contracted Parkinson's and she could sit down but not get back up even with assist bars. This riser solved the problem. The original lid created so many problems in removal and reinstallation it was left off (i.e. the original bolt heads had to be ground off to remove it). A picture was taken but who needs another toilet shot. The new bolt washers are too small for the riser slots so wider ones were used.Hint: slather the bolt threads with grease for easier removal down the road. When the wing-nuts are tightened they will pick up some of the grease. This is what was wrong with the original installation. The back of a commode is probably the worst environment around the house as far as rust snd corrosion.Another reason the lid was not reinstalled is when the riser bolts were tightened the lid bumpers caused the lid to rise in front. Washers added to level it out only made the seat higher and out of her comfort zone. Fits perfectly and cleaning has not been a problem.
