Good quality and ready to use out of the package.
If you are looking to get a good carving knife this is the one. I bought about 3 different knives before this one and I regret it. I spent upwards of 70$ on a case but it just can’t hold an edge like this one.

Sharp and reliable
For the money you can’t beat it. The appearance is good but most of all it performs. It came very sharp already, feels good in the hand everything you need in a compact size. It already has a reputation of durability and value.

Handy- but hard to open
There really isn't much to compare this too. The blades are sharp and give you enough variation that you can do most basic- and even some advanced- carving operations. The knife is hard to open and sometimes the blades don't go all the way down. This isn't a problem with the chip blade since the blade points down but the other blades can cut you if you don't have it closed all the way. I find I need a little stick to get into the cut out on the blade to get it open. I hope this gets easier as I use the knife more but then again I don't want it to get too loose either.

Great Carving Knife!
The Pocket Jack knife is the same size and the carving jack but weighs less and is easier to use. I have had the Carving Jack for about a year and just recently got the Pocket Jack because I use the 4 tools on this knife 90% of the time. Significant advantages of this knife over it's bigger brother include: 1) Weighs less, 2) Easier locking and unlocking of the 4 tools, 3) Less likely to cut yourself with this knife (in my opinion) because it's locking and unlocking is smoother (with the Carving Jack, I've been lucky ... so far - it can get tricky getting the three sharp tools on one side to lock in and also fold, as opposed to just two on each side of this knife), 4) better value overall (with the Carving Jack you get a nice leather sheath, flex cut gold honing compound, and the combination strop/sharpening wood block with edges to sharpen all your tools. It's up to you if you feel you need these additional extras (regarding Point 4). I'm going to hang on to both - but I feel the Pocket Jack will be my preferred knife - time will tell. I've tried various carving tools over the past year or so and one advantage of these two knives is they're very portable and you can quickly get to carving. The other tools take a little more effort.

This rules!
I got this product as a gift from my wife. It rules! I have other flexcut knives and like always they deliver a good quality product. I think this knife is a little too bulky to carry in pants pockets but would fit in cargos nicely. Of the four tools included I tend to use the detail blade and the small gouge the most. The other two blades (large gouge, v tool) have 90 deg bend and makes them less stable to use. The handle is more comfortable than I would have guessed. The blades lock in and out quite nicely. The only negative criticism I can make is that the tools ca be hard to extract due to the placement of the thumbnail groves and the fact that once the lock is depressed the blades can over rotate towards the spine making them more difficult to get a hold of. Every thing is sharp! I managed to cut myself while switching tools. I think this was more user error than design flaw. I am a fan of this product and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any one.

For the 'Whittlin' Sam/Samantha' on the go - this is the tool for you!
Pros1. All blades lock into place once fully opened, a nice touch.2. The blade unlocking thumb recess is wide and is easy to use, not thin and hard to press as in many knives on the market today..3. The blades are carbon steel and sharp!4. The scales and blades are black oxide coated for rust retardation - NOT rust prevention.5. The knife fits my hand nicely.Cons1. Would have been nice if this li'l beauty had come with a case or sheath.OverallThis is a nice knife to have when you're away from the workshop and all your normal whittling tools. I'll probably make a carrying case for mine, as it's too nice a tool to carry in a pocket with lint, dirt, change, etc.

An outstanding idea and design but execution and quality control are lacking.
Great product regardless of it's flaws. Caution must be observed with this tool as the locking mechanisms do not engage well and you are left in danger of the blade in use collapsing on your fingers or even worse, a blade not in use deploying unbeknownest to you and you receive a nasty cut as this tool from the factory is quite sharp as it should be.

Great Tool
I'm new to wood carving and like it so far. I'm near retirement and always wanted to learn. This is a great tool, very sharp, well made. I like that it is portable.I also picked up Flex Cut Deluxe Palm Set ( 9 piece) which is also a high quality well made set and comes in a nice wooden storage box. I would say to folks that Flex Cut tools are the way to go, nice sharp crisp edges. You tube also have some good videos on carving.
