The Ultimate Perch
I purchased the small (16") perch for my Quaker parrot. It is an amazing perch. The branches twist and bend in varying directions (up, down, left, right, back) providing a variety of heights and angles for the bird. The branches vary in thickness which provides good exercise for bird feet to reduce the chance of arthritis. My little Quaker can traverse the various thicknesses with no problem - even the 1-1/2" to 2" diameter thickest base. The perch is solid wood. Even the small is good sized and takes up a lot of space in the cage. However, because it has the multiple branches that twist around, it utilizes a lot of the "dead space" in the middle of the cage. My cage is a open-top dome cage 26(width) x 20(deep) x 36(high) and the small perch takes up about 1/8 of the interior space.I have it attached to the top - on one of the opening sides - so that when the top is open, the perch is above the cage space and the branches reach up above the top of the opening. When the top is closed, the perch sits at the top of the cage. Because the branches twist and bend, the perch is usable in either position - when opened, the bird sits on the horizontal parts; when closed, the bird sits on what were the vertical parts (but are now horizontal because the perch is hanging down from the ceiling). For the price, you can't find a better perch. It helps exercise little bird feet, it's versatile, it's solid quality, and the bird likes it! One trick I did to encourage my bird onto the perch was to set apple slices on various parts of the perch. He had to step onto the perch to reach his favorite treat. It's also the highest perch in the cage, so it's desirable real estate in the bird world.

Highly recommended!
Fabulous perch! Rather larger than I expected, but had no problems placing it in 24" x 22" cage. Three branches of varying thickness ensure that my caique's feet get the exercise they need and deserve! Highly recommended!

Dangerous Cracks - Bird Nails Can Get Stuck!!!!!
Very disappointing!! SAFETY HAZARD!! I ordered a few of these for my Green Cheeks for their new cage. One of the first ones I was sent had cracks at the base where it would connect to the cage, which was a safety concern. I ordered a replacement and sent that back, thinking it was a simple mistake, and maybe they just didn't realize it was a poorly picked perch. Not the case, apparently...When my replacement came I was absolutely horrified. This "replacement" had even more cracks, and big enough for a bird to get their nails caught in!! I have included pictures of only 3 of the cracks as they were the most concerning. If a bird sits on this perch and it's nail goes through the crack, it has serious potential for getting caught. I cannot and could never give anything like this to my birds. I don't understand how A&E hasn't realized the serious danger these cracked perches can cause. And the fact that Amazon is willing to distribute these poorly chosen, hazardous, and potentially deadly products to loving bird owners...I have asked for a refund and hope that Amazon will get rid of these dangerous perches. To be clear, it is the cracks that are dangerous, not the java wood itself. Very very disappointing, and I will not be purchasing one of these again, unless they change the way they choose their products. It's one thing to sell something to someone, it's another thing to actually care what your customer is getting. It seems like A&E does not care. And the people at Amazon need to know the dangerous product they are selling. Please never give your bird a perch with cracks in it. The pictures I am including show that my nails can easily fit into the cracks. Birds nails gradually thicken as they get close to the quick. If a bird got it's nail stuck in that crack (which it could have, easily) then freaked out trying to get free, there's all kinds of things that can go wrong. They could bleed a lot if they ended up yanking the nail out or breaking/chewing it off. They could break toes, or even a leg trying to get free. They could even potentially die if they got stuck and struggled for too long.I am sorry that I have to write this, but I cannot stand to think of any bird having to go through such pain. And how bad would the owners feel for giving these bad products to their birds? I know I would feel horrible. Keep your birds safe and don't use cracked perches of any kind, not just A&E perches.

I like the perch a lot
I like the perch a lot. It's gorgeous and the birds went over and checked it out immediately, which they have never done with something new before but there are a couple issues. The perch vibrated and shook a bit when they tried stand on the ends. Also, it's very slick. My budgie tried to perch on the end of one of the branches and slid all the way down to the main branch of the perch it because of the lack of traction (it was hilarious and adorable but not what I want to see in a perch). Nothing about this perch is dangerous and it is very, very pleasing to look at! It will go right back into the cage once I rough it up a bit.

Great perch!
Bought this perch for my Sun Conure’s cage as a “step” for him to climb to the top of his play top cage. It is very sturdy & looks great. He gets good use out of it & I have no issues with it. I just use two thin fleece blankets as his cage cover at night & I drape the blanket over the perch, so it causes no disruption that way. It arrived on time & in one piece. Worth the money.

Perfect
My finches love this. I beat it up a bit due to the comments from others but my birds aren't sliding around too much. They used to stay not the perches by their food dishes but this is their new favorite. I cycle my perches for sanitary reasons b/c even though I clean them and put them in the oven they never truly get clean. I had a similar one in their cage before but they like this one more. I like that it it is only a few inches wide laterally but wide vertically. That's perfect b/c I don't want to take away from flight room for my finches. It's also attractive. I'm happy with the purchase.

Good branch, slippery
This branch has been smoothed out a lot. Its a good branch for a perch but its so smooth my parrot cannot stay balanced and seldom uses it.

Beautiful !
This is my 4th purchase of these java wood bird perches and they’ve all been beautiful. They are super sturdy , very smooth & look like a piece of art for my birds. Our birds are rarely caged so I attach the perches to the outside. No regrets .
