Pennington 100086822 One Step Complete Grass Seed for Sun & Shade Areas, 8.3 Pounds

This stuff really works! I bought about 8 bags of the 35lb version at home depot. I had trouble last year with seed because I did it too late in the season and it was an extremely hot summer. The seeds probably dried out and I didnt do much to prepare the soil. This spring I was determined to make some grass in the dead spots. I prepared the soil by raking out all old grass and crab grass roots which I did not want to sprout. Used a stronger rake to loosen up top layer of soil. I laid down a nice amount of the one step and raked it nice and even. I water this area religiously for 2 weeks to get the results you see in the photo. I actually did not see much progress but then out of no where, around day 7-10 the grass came out. Its very thick and green. My problem then became the "grass" around the new path of grass looked like crap! I ended up buying more of the 1 step and spread it around in more areas. So now Im waiting for that to come in. I expect it to fill in very nicely. Love the product. Follow the directions and you will be very happy.

We had plenty of rain so I did not have to water that much but this stuff really works,came up in a few days ,pretty and green. only reason I did not give her 5 stars is all that twice a day watering that is required , too much work. LOLThank God for the rain ...

I can't believe how well this works! I needed to regrow a patch of lawn that had been repeatedly driven over in the winter. Needless to say the grass was all dead and there was a rather large (5 ft x 3 ft) dirt patch in the lawn. The Pennington 1 step grass grew started growing within a week, was filling out at two-three weeks, and within a month you couldn't tell where the original lawn started and ended. It was incredibly easy to plant as well. I just sprinkled the seed down, and watered it the first few days and then it grew on its own. I used almost the whole bag for this patch but I used it very liberally. The bag probably could have went farther, but I didn't need it elsewhere so I used it up.

This is mostly mulch and fertilizer - not much seed. The grass has grown, but isn't thriving yet. The place I planted is fairly shady, so that may be the issue. It's been watered regularly. I'm not giving up on it yet, but bought something different for the next area to be seeded.

Our lawn was sodded last year and developed a few bare spots this spring; I tried raking the the dead areas and reseeding, but didn't have much luck. I tried one other product which claims to have mulch, fertilizer, and seed all in one. Although I cleared the area and and faithfully watered, the results were poor. I decided to give it one last go with the Pennington product. In about ten days I had grass. Since then, it has gotten thicker and blended in with the rest of the lawn. I'm impressed. The One Step takes no more work than the other things I've tried and really performs. (I gave the product five stars for thickness and value, but I'm not sure what Amazon was looking for when they asked about "warmth", so I left that blank.)

Simple to use. Grass completely filled in within two weeks.

Not a single blade of grass anywhere I put this.Ended up taking it out and laying potting soil and seed and had grass within the week.The sawdust pellets in it just dont seem to allow anything to grow.
