Yeah, it's expensive, but it's so intuitive and truly instant read that you can move the probe through a piece of meat on the grill and get a sense of how deep the heat has gone, it's THAT fast. Also love that, although it auto-shuts-off, the second you grab it it lights right back up; cuz' it knows. This is my second unit (first died unexpectedly after 5 years) and I tried a cheap model but was so spoiled by the Thermapen that the cheapo option was just..no...and it was "quick". But quick is not instant by a WIDE margin.

We had spent money on different thermometers that were inexpensive but they hardly ever worked. You always got a different reading. We finally bought this one and I’m so glad we did. The readings are quick and very accurate. It’s helped us significantly with cooking. I would highly recommend this product. Consider this as an investment you are making.

Our first Thermopen wore out after 10 years of use. (Yes, had to put new batteries in it a few times over the years). For the replacement went with Thermopen again. They are simply the best in accuracy and durability.
