Excellent book. Was surprised to find 7" and poster included!

This book was a gift, and I have to say, it kind of floored me. The pictures are just incredible, not cliche at all. So many intense, and also moving, truthful images. But then you start reading, and that's when your mind gets blown. Walker has managed to assemble an astonishing collection of interviews from a wide array of the Houston Rap Community, people like Willie D, Bun B, Devin the Dude, and many I was not before familiar with. Lots of incredible stories. One really starts to understand how the socio-economic landscape and homegrown communities shape the Houston sound. My copy also came with a totally dope record! Daps to Beste and Walker.

A truly amazing book! Even though the photography could easily stand on it's own, this book is much more than that. The stories told by the rappers, djs, promoters, etc. offer an incredible glimpse into the real world of the Houston Rap culture that most readers could never get. The photography and stories add up to shine light on more than just the music. Topics such as economics, geography, gentrification, sociology, and others are explored via the images and interviews in this fantastic book. Instant Classic.

This book is really a one of a kind. There are hardly any books like this out there that discuss the unique cultural heritage within Houston. I bought this book thinking I was just getting a nice book of Houston images and photographs. That is only the tip of the iceberg. This book is FULL of quotes from people within the community giving a sort of oral history of modern Houston. I hope this book acts as a sort of catalyst to bring people out and publish similar work about Houston. Truly a Gem. Worth every penny!

This is a gorgeous book. The pictures in it are devastating and beautiful. Were it possible, I would marry it and never ever cheat on it or take it for granted.

The representation of culture in our city is so heavily produced in this collection. I’m blown away.
