Ok.
A few pages were useful but I personally found the information to be too basic. If you've done any online researching of the disorder, there really isn't anything more to learn from this book. The activities they gave you were a little helpful but not all that engaging... I usually love self help but found myself not doing these exercises out of boredom. I also disagreed with several claims, such as that past trauma doesn't cause BPD and that hypnosis isn't a helpful tool. Hypnosis if done correctly is a special kind of guided meditation and has been very effective for me. There were some other dubious claims. Lastly, as a side note, it was unhelpful for me because gender roles were very strictly divided: men want muscle, women want to be slim or curvy or both.

Helpful as an adjunct to therapy or self-study
As a therapist, I find this workbook very helpful in working with clients with BDD. The assessment process is thorough and leaves no stone unturned. Helpful worksheets w/in the CBT framework. Workbooks are valuable for clients to revisit at times of relapse. Clients also report enjoying using this book.

but it is good to know
After reading the book and doing the exercises, I find I don't have BDD, but it is good to know.

Very wordy and technical
I expected it to be more straight forward. There is a lot of good information but you have to go through a lot of it to get to it.

At last...
As a parent of a BDD sufferer, I was pleased to read through the workbook before presenting it to our family member. If read and followed, it should help with any one in BDD's grip.

Good book
This is quite a good book to help you understand about BDD. Can't say I found it the easiest read in the world but then it is a tricky subject to cover.

Practical and informative
I am surprised at the low reviews for this book. I have been diagnosed with BDD and I've found the ideas and exercises contained in the book to be very useful, although I do still think it's better to have the extra support of a therapist to keep you focussed. The book contains plenty of information on the causes and effects of BDD and it's really hands-on, in that there are lots of worksheets that will get you thinking and more importantly, taking action. One of the autors, Dr Claiborn, also contributes to the forum at bddcentral.com.The only reason I've given this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that the chapter on self esteem got me a bit lost and the book ended abruptly. Nonetheless, these are minor points and in my opinion, this book is thoroughly recommended.
