Anti-social escape
Really love this game, have a few mental health issues which make it hard for me to socialize, but this game has helped me escape to a different world and be someone who isn't drummed down just by thinking, if your anti-social this is the game for you xx

Just doesn't hold up in 2019
For many Skyrim V was the game of 2011 receiving rave reviews from nearly every gaming website and gamers alike. For some reason I just never checked it out at the time despite hearing how great it was from friends.Several years later and I see it has been remastered on PS4 and at £14.99 I thought I may as well give it a try.Now i'm no expert on story telling but opening with the character you are playing being taken by guards for execution didn't really build up much tension for me as I had only just gone through the character creation set up 5 seconds earlier.. of course a dragon invades and you make your escape. You're then free to explore the world of Skyrim. It's at this point I realise oh yeah this game was made in 2011.. Despite this edition being a remaster the world still looks dated and NPCs are very wooden with not the best facial animation and detail. Comparing the graphics to the PS3 version it seems the main improvements are lighting/contrast and more detail on trees/vegetation in the world.Encountering the first few enemies I run in to battle prepared for an epic fight with my sword then realise I can only hit in about 2 directions by just spamming the R2 button with very little you can do to avoid attacks (No dodge or roll) It then turns into a DPS battle to see who's going to deplete the others health faster while your character stands still flailing his sword around.I think ok so the combat and somewhat dated graphics aren't what makes this game great. Maybe im going to find some amazing loot. It doesn't take long to become overburdened in this game that's for sure. Soon I was over my carrying capacity limit. The only problem was all I had picked up was a bunch of buckets, cups, books and other miscellaneous items with little to no value and no way of breaking them down for materials. They were essentially pure junk. Playing through the story for several hours now and exploring caves I have not found one interesting weapon, just the same basic swords and axes over and over again. Now i'm thinking ok the combat is terrible, the graphics are dated, there's no loot and the less said about the story the better. Now im asking myself why is this game praised so much? and I still don't know the answer to that.My one theory is that I played the Witcher 3 way before this and its far superior in terms of story, far deeper combat mechanics with a level of skill and tactics involved, a beautiful open world and loot that you actually want to go on journey to find.Maybe people fondly remember Skyrim like I remember GTA Vice City and are hooked on the nostalgia. At the time Vice City was the most amazing game I had ever seen but give it to someone today who has never played it and its very bare bones in comparison to GTA5.On that basis I cant recommend this game in 2019 even if you never played it. Try Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dark Souls, Bloodborne. Any of those have a much richer experience.

Skyrim Belongs To The Nords!
The best videogame ever, now on PS4. 1000+ hours on various consoles and editions, 10s of characters, so many achievements and trophies unlocked, and deaths recorded. I have loved fantasy for so long, but this is just something more. The setting is perfect. The open world is perfect. I loved the quests and the combat, which was so fresh and new when it came out, and even just ambling around exploring is amazing, with so much to see and do and people to meet and work for.Build a house, raise a family, become a Thane, be a vampire, be a werewolf, master magic, slay dragons, ride dragons, befriend a dragon, be an assassin, be a thief, be a warrior, be an arch-mage, be a bard, read books, own a dog, ride horses, climb up mountains, hunt deer, cook meals, make potions, pick flowers, trap bees, marry someone, murder people, save people, rob people, raise the dead, take someone with you, smith armour and weapons, swim, go to the afterlife, kill undead, kill trolls, be a vampire-slayer, visit the world underneath Skyrim, explore caves, explore dwarven ruins, explore castles, explore lairs, and do whatever it is YOU want to do.10/10, five stars out of five, and personally I don't think will ever be beaten, but we'll see.

A Masterpiece Reborn
I could write a lengthy discourse on the impression this game has left on my life, but I shall assume the reader is already reasonably familiar with the Elder Scrolls series and focus instead on the improvements made over the original release.Depth of field effects are prominent and pleasing to the eye.The overall resolution and complexity of the in-game graphics have been overhauled and improved massively - it is almost as through the game was made 'originally' for the PS4.The colour depth is far greater, with many objects, surfaces and magical effects much more vibrant than in the original. The draw distance (the distance from the player character at which objects will 'appear') is enormously greater, taking advantage no doubt of the significantly more powerful processing of the console. Field are grassy at any distance, tree and terrain features appear on distant mountainsides, and far-off buildings are visible from the wilderness areas in greater detail than the boxes previously shown.Characters are slightly more detailed and refined, with better facial resolution and more realistic features. Particularly DLC characters, such as Serana. The ambient lighting and atmospheric specular effects in the towns, dungeons, caves and castles are much more pronounced, especially in dimly lit areas. Solitude in the evening for example is astonishing.Even if you owned this game on a previous console, it is worth the upgrade for the graphical improvements alone, and even more so if you have never played the DLC (like I hadn't).Besides all that, you have access to Mods (selected by Bethesda) which can alter the game to your taste - be aware, however, that once any Mod is activated for a particular save file, Trophies will lock for that file.I have sunk thousands of hours into Skyrim, and will continue to, thanks to this release. Incredible.

Escape to a fantasy world, there's mammoth cheese there!
I bought my wife Skyrim for the PS4 because she loved it so much on the PS3. I didn't fancy it much myself, but I had a go and pretty soon I was hooked. I say "hooked", but "obsessed" would be a better word. The actual story of Skyrim seems pretty weak, especially when sustained over several hundred hours of gameplay over a few years, which is how long I played Skyrim until I platinum trophied it.The strength of Skyrim isn't the flimsy story, it's the world itself. I found myself wondering vistas and plains, mountains and strange underground mushroom landscapes. I felt attached to my character and grinding for XP became a part of my daily routine. The digital world in which this game takes place is stunning, I would climb mountain paths just to see the view and take screenshots for my PS4 background. The various mechanisms for crafting materials, weapons, and various other things seem a bit overwhelming at first, especially when you're picking every thing up and maxing out your carry capacity. You seem weak to every foe and the massive world feels daunting. But after a while you become adept with a weapon type, and that Frost Troll on the way to High Hrothgar that whipped your ass becomes an easy victim to your crafted armour and legendary weapon! You begin to familiarise yourself with the landscape and just instinctively know your way around. It was quite telling last month when I my son started playing this, and although I'd not played it for about 3 years - I knew my way around Whiterun still. After completing the game (platinum trophy) I stopped playing, once the PS5 remaster was announced I told my wife I wouldn't bother with it as the PS4 version took me ages, but then I saw my son playing it on my old PS4 and I felt a blast of nostalgia for a place I genuinely loved, and I knew that I would start again on PS5.Now I can't wait for the PS5 Anniversary Edition and getting all my skill trees to multiple legendary status, the challenge will be on!In a nutshell: whether battling in dungeons, crafting resources, or wondering about looking from beautiful viewpoints is your thing - Skyrim was, and is, an incredibly immersive game for me. The music is evocative and there's a reason Bethesda can keep remastering the same game over and over again - people love it, and rightly so.
