Get ready to fall in love again during the American Civil!
I caught hold of this splendid Collectible Deluxe edition of "Gone with the Wind" , a classic piece by American author Margaret Mitchell. Having already read this book and watched the motion picture for ummmm ..... ig innumerable times, I knew I had to have this on my shelf once I saw it on Amazon and immediately proceeded to purchase. This edition came with a brilliant red cover and beautiful illustrations all across the pages. The backside of the cover has a resplendent lake painted on it and totally gives the early 1900s vibes. Here is a short blurb of the story and a few more details about this version in case you wanna check this book out.Publisher : Fingerprint ClassicsPrice : INR 799 ( Thanks to Amazon Summer sale I saved a ton and got it just for INR 449)BLURB :It’s April 1861. Georgia, southern United States.Scarlet O’Hara—the vivacious, narcissistic and pampered daughter of a plantation owner in Atlanta—in a fit of choleric contempt over rejection by her desired man, Ashley Wilkes, hurls a figurine against the wall. And behind the depths of the sofa, Rhett Butler is woken up from his nap. “You’re no gentleman, ” fires the southern belle.“And you’re no lady!” the rogue fires back.Scarlet, for vengeance, accepts the marriage proposal from Charles Hamilton—Ashley Wilke’s brand new brother-in-law. But at the outbreak of the American Civil War he joins the army and dies of pneumonia followed by measles, a not-so-gallantry death. Through wiles and widowhood, Scarlet manages to keep her independence and becomes an astute business woman.Rhett Butler—the dark, flashy and scandalous visitor from Charleston—who is a professional gambler and blockade runner, is enamoured by her survival instincts. Around the social turmoils of the war, what becomes of O’Hara and Rhett Butler, an outcast whom she marries for money?

Masterpiece and classic
One of the great novels of all time! Describes the wiping away of an entire civilisation and the problems that occur at ground level. The romance is a sideshow but wonderfully described. A MUST READ FOR ALL

Classic work
It creates its own world and draws readers into it.I was just thinking of the many sequels of this novel.I recently took it up for a second read after 25 years or so. Was struck by the details regarding the emergence of the dreaded KKK and the culture of southern America. My first reading was wrapped around Scarlett and Rhett. This time, the violence of the pair, the torture they inflict on each other felt excessive.

Amazing Classic
This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. This book is considerably longer than my typical read and most modern books I come across so if you are going to read it, be prepared to make a commitment to finish it. Although this isn't a book you'll have to push yourself through in any fashion. It's impeccably written and because of it's length I became so invested in these characters that by the end I was literally sobbing. This is one of those books that is less about the story ending with everything tied up into a finish. It's more about this group of characters and their relationships with each other. It's a story of war time and struggle, yes but also a story of days gone by and a point and time that was put to death in one war-torn night. Absolutely worthy of every ounce of praise and so much more.

Review of the Macmillan edition
Pros :It's Gone with the wind. Everyone should read it at least once in their lifetime.Cheap price. It's a humongous book and the price on Amazon is really a deal.Cons:This Macmillan edition is no good if you want this book as a keepsake. Good for one or maybe two reads and then the spine will be gone and the book will fall apart. This edition has a weird size which makes the book almost square.Story : I have given it five stars because it will be a disrespect to this book to give anything less. You will be hard-pressed to find another book which is as absorbing, shocking and magical in one hand and depressing and tragic on another hand. It is a captivating work set up in time of American civil war and reconstruction era. Give it a try.Note: Watch the movie too if you can. The movie is rather toned down in comparison to the book itself, still it will help in understanding.
