It's wonderful to be back
Mickey Zucker Reichery is one of my three or four favorite authors, and she keeps on getting better with time. It's wonderful to be back in the world of the Renshai - this is yet another of her books I can't stop reading until it's finished, and I keep returning to for the emotional and instinctual charge. I'm glad she chose to continue with the story of the characters from the previous Renshai trilogy (and their children, as it's been a few years). As with the first series, there's a new combative enemy who will tax the peoples of the West, the North and the East, take all the skill of the most disciplined Renshai, the elves and the skill of another mysterious and almost extinct tribe of people to hold off. They're merely introduced in this volume, but you can already tell this is a battle that will make the Great War and even the Ragnarok look like practice.

Good read
While not written as well as the previous six books, this installment still tells a good story, building on what has preceded it. The main difference is that this book at times seems a series of parables connected to tell the story. Sometimes feeling a bit convenient or contrived, but overall effective in advancing the story. Existing characters have their time, but new characters are given the focus to move the larger story forward.

Norse mythology, sword fighting and pearls of wisdom
Mickey wrote this series over a long period of time, and each can be read as a stand alone and/or in any order. However, it is even more powerful to see the unfolding of the causal relationship of violence and human fears that anyone can relate to. Perfect for teens/young adults especially. Each chapter starts off with a very insightful piece of wisdom. I also really got into the fleshing out of the back stories of the Asgaardians and the other worlds.

Expected better
I re-read the entire Renshai series before purchasing this book, so I was ready for the next part of the saga.. only be to disappointed. The plot often seemed too obvious/convenient, and many of the characters became stereotyped and one dimensional.

Mickey is a swordsmans wordsmith
MZR imho has no equal in creating swordsman (and women) of peerless abilities. She has a knack for creating believable charactors that have a richness to them and her swordplay scenes are to die for. Here's hoping we won't have to wait too long for the next installment of this engrossing saga.

Can't wait for the next one!
Mickey's stories improve with each book, and it never gets old. I can't wait until the next part of this new era comes out.

Good book, will read the next
This was a good book. It has been years since I read the second trilogy so it took a little time to remember all of the plot lines (I should have read the reviews of their reviews to brush up first). Regardless, it has a very good storyline(s), kept my attention and will be anxious to read book 2 of this trilogy. Was happy to see Colby pop up a couple of times and I hope to see him in the future.

If you liked the first six, don't buy the last three!
Having read and absolutely loved the Renshai trilogy and the Renshai chronicles many times, I was overjoyed when I found there were three more for me to read. I wish I hadn't!The character development is abysmal and the plot is juvenile but that's not the worst. For convenience, the author has discarded her own world history and the intricacies of the people who populate it. I could go on in this vein for a long time but suffice to say, I did not keep these three books. On my shelf are the original six Renshai books and I will give myself selective amnesia and pretend these never existed.
