Hms Victory Manual

What a fantastic book!
It seems every time I get another book in the history series from Haynes, I am once again amazed and this book is not exception. First I spent a week just digesting the diagrams and photographs. Next it was a week digesting the written text and relating it to the diagrams and photographs. WOW WHAT A BOOK, so packed full of information, I could not put it down. If you are interested in the HMS Victory, you have to have this book in your collection. There are larger and more expensive books on the Victory, but none of them are as concise and well written as this one.

Awesome, lots of technical details
I recently had the opportunity to visit the HMS Victory in Portsmouth, very cool, definitely worth the drive from London. I wanted a book to remember the ship and this book was perfect. Lots of technical details about the ship answered my lingering questions about the ship. The author used some photos from the film Master and Commander, which seemed out of place. I also would have liked to see more detailed blueprints/deckplans of each of the decks, but those just are minor opportunities for improvement to a great book

All very ship shape.........
I brought this for a friend, who is making a model of HMS Victory, to help him with the detailing and he cannot sing it's praises enough. It's answered all his questions and several more he'd yet to think of. Apparently just about every square inch of the ship is covered in the closed detail. That detail is mainly as to how she looks now but references are made to things that have changed since Nelsons day and how they would have appeared then and at other times in between then and now. I had it in my possession a week or so before presenting it to him and on the occasions I glanced through it, I to was taken by the level of detail this tinny volume goes into. These Haynes books are a bit of a lucky dip ranging from poor to very good and this, would appear on first examination, to be one of the very better ones.

Different subject for Haynes
This is a great book on both the history of the ship and its construction. For anyone interested in the ship or buiding one of the many available construction kits available, this is a superb addition.

Disappointed
Haynes manuals are normally really good but I found this one rather hard work. All the info is there but the layout and order is a bit all over the place. I think Haynes need to remember that unlike their car books, these are for interest and not a reference manual.

' This is Yorkshire for 'I really like it. ' It kept him quiet for ages
Bought as a christmas present for my husband. When asked what he thought of it he replied 'It's all right.' This is Yorkshire for 'I really like it.' It kept him quiet for ages, he is an engineer and was very happy with the technical drawings and descriptions.
