Hello, They can if the smoke detector takes 123 batteries. They are just a little thicker than a AA battery and about half as short. Are you familiar with 123 batteries? I believe that the 123 represents a certain size of battery (like AA or AAA). You would want to make sure that your smoke detector works with 123 batteries. Thanks for writing

According to a website that tested this type of batteries (CR123A) from different brands (Google is your friend here), these are better than average and rated at 1400mAh. I am very satisfied with them.
