Sunpentown SPT SH-1507 Mini-Tower Ceramic Heater

I LOVE this little heater. I live in St. Pete Florida and needed a space heater for the unseasonably cold weather that we had here. I live in a 650 sq. foot, poorly insulated, garage apartment, and this heater really saved the day when it was in the 20's and 30's outside. We ran only this heater and not our central heater, as the latter costs a fortune and does very little in the way of actual heating. The space heater was used mostly in one large room that comprises about 40% of our apartment, and also in the bedroom which is about 25%. In the bedroom with the door closed this sucker kept it quite warm, even on low (and the bedroom is like 15x13 feet). Granted it takes an hour or so to heat the whole room, but it worked great (so great that we had to shut it off in the middle of the night because we were sweating under our heavy comforter). In the large room, the heater did an admirable job and kept it bearable throughout the cold spell (and that large room has so many drafts it's like all of professional sports combined). Now, with the weather more temperate (40's and 50's) this little heater heats whatever room I'm in without a problem. I love the high and low settings and the fact that the high setting draws only 1200W (as opposed to 1500W for most space heaters). The unit is quite small and no part of it is too hot to touch at any time. It is a breeze to move from room to room. This heater would be a good choice for anyone with children or pets, as it has a knockover shut-off. It is very quiet (though not silent as some have said). In a room with any ambient noise, you're not likely to hear the heater. In a quiet bedroom it sounds like (surprise) a small fan. There are some days when it sounds a little bit rough on startup, but this noise goes away within a minute or so. My unit has held up great (I've had it for a few months now and ran it 24 hrs a day for weeks), but I am very careful not to knock it or use it in a humid area (like a bathroom). I could see this heater breaking if it is knocked over or hit against something while moving it between rooms. Also, I take care to hold the heater with one hand whenever I turn the on/off knob with the other hand, because the knob takes a good bit of torque to rotate. If I were to turn the knob without holding the heater I would be twisting the whole heater on its base which could potentially damage the oscillation feature. With proper care this heater seems like it will fare well. For me, this heater was a great buy. It was relatively inexpensive, it is small and easy to store, and it puts out an admirable amount of heat for its size. I wouldn't rely on it to bring a large room up to a short sleeve and shorts temperature in the dead of winter, but it will definitely take the edge off the cold. In a closed room this heater will bring the temperature up nicely. Amazon, as always, was a pleasure to deal with. Oddly, the manufacturer's packaging looked like it had been opened and re-taped, but the interior packaging appeared factory fresh. I guess it could have been opened and re-sealed, or the Sunpentown factory just tapes up their boxes sloppily. Either way, the heater is great, and I am quite pleased.

Item received today, Nov 4,2022. Plugged in and turned on. Ran and heated for about 3 minutes. Then shut down and will not restart. Returning for a refund!! Did restart after about an hour. Seems to be running the way it should. Return cancelled!!

I bought this heater because I was tired of being cold at work every winter. Not only is it pettite enough to hide under my desk (though being ceramic in nature, the danger of fire is a remote possibility), boy does it pack some power! I tucked this bad boy under my desk, turned it on, and within micro-seconds (no joke) nice hot air was warming my cold toes.As others have noted, it is super-quiet. While there is general office noise in my area, you truly cannot hear it operating unless you're in a very quiet room. I'd also agree with others that two nice features to add would be a timer or temperature feature. Also noted is that when using the dial to turn it on or off, you do need two hands. The dial is very stiff and has a tendency to turn the machine if you're not careful. I don't need to use the oscillating feature, but it's nice to have the option.In all, the unit seems sturdy, functions remarkably well, and completely suits my needs. Definitely worth the price.I'm highly tempted to buy an additional one for home, to warm a bedroom before sleeping or keep my feet warm in the den. (Maybe once they fix the dial button stiffness and add a timer option.)UPDATE: August 24, 2013This heater is still running perfectly! Last year, we moved to a climate that doesn't require indoor heating/air conditioning for most of the year, so most homes do not have any built-in HVAC. During the winter, it gets chilly enough that toes get cold and stepping out of the hot shower into the cooler room is a bit daunting. I run this heater in our bathroom before those cooler winter nights and it gets it very warm very quickly! Not only did it manage to survive being shipped over-seas, but it continues to perform like new all these years later.

Yes, it is smaller than you would think, noted by other reviewers. This unit would be most appropriate for heating a small space. I use mine in a large drafty master bath that is always cold. Sometimes I will take it with me to the family room to use as a personal heater near the chair I am sitting in. It just isn't big enough to heat a large room, which is fine for my purposes. I just wanted to be able to heat up the immediate area so I wouldn't have to turn up the heat for the entire house.I really like the air filter, the fan only setting (should be useful when the weather gets warmer), the oscillation on/off button, and two heat settings. Two improvements I would like: ridges on the knob so it was easier to turn, and the exact same design in a larger model. This is one of the more contemporary designs I could find for the price. It doesn't look cheap like many other plastic heaters do. Once I took it to yoga class (the heat in the building was out)and everyone was commenting on how cute and nice looking it was. It does have an indented handle on the back so you can easily and safely pick it up to move around.As far as safety goes, it really does stay cool to the touch. I have had it running full blast, turned it off and then immediately touched the the heat output area. I found it comfortable to touch, barely warm. Obviously I wouldn't do that while it's running, as the air coming out is what is hot. I have kids and pets and I consider this very safe. It has the little pressure button on the bottom that shuts it off if it tips, or even if it looses contact with the floor if you happen to tilt it while moving it.

I was looking for a quiet heater for my bedroom and this fit the bill. However, I have to reduce it from 5 stars and should give it 0 because of the smell when it is running in heater mode. The smell is immediate and has not gone away from extended ON periods which I did outside.I fixed it by removing the orange grate. It smells when in the heater, does not smell in the oven set at 200F (105C, actually).,,even after 6 hours in there. I took it out and washed it several times.. then eventually put it back on the front of the heater. Instant smell. Take if off. Instant NO SMELL. I would worry about children being around now that it is open to the element, but that's the way it must be.BE Warned.

This is as really stylish, powerful and quiet heater. It comes with 3 settings...fan, low, high. It also oscillates and is great for my small office (10 x 10). It's so quiet you almost can't even tell it's on. The compact size is also unobtrusive and can be tucked away beside a dresser or other furniture and still heat up the room.

worked okay for the purpose of heating with young kids around but major downfalls were;-had an annoying creaking noise on the isolation mode-that it died after less than 2 yrs of light use.

Really awesome and so quiet which is what I wanted for my basement office. Not meant for really large areas but for a small unit it is brilliant.
