BEST EVER
PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!! Such a great resource for read alouds with a purpose! The suggested books are great (so far I have found them all used on amazon). The chapters are super well laid out and the "lessons" are awesome. If you want to "ramp up" your read alouds (and be able to justify their purpose to admin), this book is the ticket! Ditto for her "Shake Up Shared Reading". The Shake Up Shared Reading goes even further with 1 and sometimes 2 re-reads with an extended learning target.

Dr. Walther has done it again!!!"The Ramped-Up Read Aloud" is a MUST HAVE for educators!
WOW, where to begin with this one...! I opened the book and was immediately impressed by the very easy to follow format, detail and thoughtful thoroughness that went into each of these read alouds. I have been avid in implementing Dr. Walther's lessons in my own classroom and know the satisfaction of, LITERALLY, all of my students being totally engaged! These lessons will not only inspire your class to read and explore even more literature on their own, but will also increase communication skills, build schema, (all key components in generating students to write) and most certainly, excite and catapult your students into THE WRITING PROCESS! There are opportunities for writing extensions with almost every read-aloud lesson! By doing all of this, the possibilities of your day become endless... an advantageous journey of connecting your read alouds to ALL other subject areas throughout the day, (Science,Technology, Engineering, Art, Math and social studies...etc.). It is also nice to know that you have the flexibility of inserting your own favorite read alouds into the lesson template! Let's all Ramp-up our Read Alouds and encourage our students to ask questions and energize their ambitions to LEARN!

This is a fantastic resource for me. I am a librarian at two elementary schools and I am always looking for books and activities to share with students (K-5). This book is very easy to follow and gives great ideas for me to use. I'm so excited!

Great resource for beginning Teachers and Sub Plans
I did enjoy this book but felt like it didn't go far enough. There are many great lessons and examples that the book provides for teaching ELA in Early Childhood and Elementary classes. Walther provides great insights into what strategies make these lessons work. This is where I feel the book is kind of lacking because I wanted more detail on "why" these strategies work. I also feel as though we are being teased with ways to instill aesthetic learning, but never really crossing the line from surface level learning. To give credit, Walther's does remind readers of student intersectionality. Just because it works in one class, doesn't mean it will work in all classes.Teaching requires an adeptness to changing environments and classroom cultures. Walther's encourages her readers to have varied and diverse strategies because of this. I really wanted to hear more of her thoughts and story in addition to the resources. However, this is not to discredit the lessons and activity examples provided in the book. That is why I believe this is a great resource for beginning teachers and for all teachers to use for Sub Plans. The foundational strategies and objective of each lesson allows for easier alterations. It gives you the first two things you need for backwards planning and an example of how to implement it. The lessons themselves are easy to understand Once written out as a lesson plan, teachers now have a collection of sub plans for the future.

Fabulous resource for everyone!
Dr. Walther is highly dedicated to children and teachers. Her passion for helping teachers teach quality lessons is apparent in all of her professional books. However, this Ramped Up Read Aloud Book is by far the best! She has actually used each and every one of the books listed within and has given tried and true information and lessons. She has given the framework so teachers can use her information and tweak it based on age levels of children. Knowing she’s experienced these picture books cover to cover makes reading this Ramped Up Book a joy. I personally love that when I read about a particular picture book she has reviewed that ideas and activities come to mind because she’s laid the foundation for teachers to use and be creative based on the needs of his/her students. Thank you Maria and can’t wait to see what is in store next.

An amazing resource to support K-3 teachers
Maria's encyclopedic knowledge of quality children's literature paired with her deep understanding of effective literacy instruction come together in this book to create an invaluable resource for K-3 teachers. Maria guides teachers in choosing diverse, engaging books to read aloud to students then lays out for them how these books can be used to support important literacy skill development. Not only did I learn of new children's literature titles by reading the book but I also came across some strategies that were new to me to implement with my students. I am excited to use both the books and the strategies with my students all in the hopes of developing strong literacy learners who love books!
