Great For The Home Hobbyist
This was our second year tapping Maple trees and making syrup. Last year was a real learning curve, but this year, we were much more efficient at it, lol. After our first big batch of sap was boiled down and filtered with layers and layers of cheesecloth, we bit the bullet and spent the $22 for this filter kit. We also bought a $6 fryer filter frame, which isn't a perfect fit, but with a couple of clips to keep the filters from slipping down or folding over worked great.Look at the pic - need I say more? Well I will, anyway, lol. Filtering with the three pre-filters stacked on top of the orlon filter worked really well. I filtered twice after reaching the syrup stage, rinsing the filters with hot water and gently squeezing out between run throughs. Then, while pouring syrup into jars (at 180-190 degrees F), I used one pre-filter folded over and clipped to a canning funnel for one final filter. Depending on how much syrup I was doing, I did need to rinse every quart or so. Again, referring to the pic - not bad for filtering by hand! Some jars after sitting for a few days do still have a wee bit of niter/sugar sand in the bottom that has settled out, but just a bit. This filter set will not give you absolutely niter-free syrup, but it will cut it down to almost nothing! Unless you're willing to fork out big $$$ for a pressure filter, these filters will work just fine for the Home Hobbyist! Next year I may invest in a few more pre-filters to cut down my rinsing time during processing, but what we had this year worked really well even with the extra rinsing. Highly recommended!

These worked great!
These made my syrup go from all-sand (jar on left) to clean and clear (jar on right). I’m so glad I bought these. I now have 2 gallons of maple syrup - which will last me an entire year!!! Much better than buying a jug for $20-$25 each.

My syrup was crystal clear after using this filter!
I was getting 2 inches of sediment in my syrup before using this. You will lose some syrup using any finishing filter but if you want it clear, this is the way to go!

Something is not right with it
I bought one in 2020 (without the prefilters), and still use it. I got this one to have a second. The old one is still soft, this one is smooth, like the plastic fibers have melted. It drains significantly slower than the old one. I am not happy with it at all.

Worked well
Used for final filtering of my maple syrup processing.

Works ok, but not perfect.
Works ok, but still allows some niter through that will make it into your final product. Filter also does not have the slits as shown in the first picture so I had to use some binder clips to support it on my stand to make it work.

Works great
This works so much better than coffee filter on maple syrup. There was no waiting for it to run through when filtering hot.

Syrup is Much More Clear
Daughter uses this to strain her maplesyrup. There is still a little sludge in the bottom of the bottles, but is a vast improvement over cheesecloth layers.Only used for one season, so far, but rewashed several times and is holding up well.
