From The Anvil Polished Brass Small Letter Plate Cover

Arrived promptly, well packaged with all the fittings. Looked good. Purchased to use internally to reduce draughts from letter box. Easy-ish to fit, although slightly fiddly as the flap is not permanently fixed to the sections that are screwed into the door. There are gaps on the side of the flap so some cold air does still come through but it has reduced the cold somewhat. The biggest issue is that I put this up on the 10th Nov and today is the 16th Nov and the attached picture shows the level of tarnish AFTER a clean. Lacquered brass should not tarnish that much in 6 days. And as the cleaning clearly did not remove the tarnish, it doesn't greatly add to the aesthetic of the house. Overall I'm disappointed.

First thing to note the Amazon 'Product Dimensions" are the size of the box not the letter plate. The plate itself is 27x13cm, the aspect ratio is thus near enough 2:1, an unusual 'Letter Box' format. A little unexpected, but I quite like it. The important thing is that it is a solid piece of unlacquered brass that will, with a few tarnish & polish cycles age gracefully; far superior to the plated steel or anodised aluminium type. Well worth paying more for something that will last as long as the house.

Having repainted the door I didn't want to spoil it with a cheap and nasty letter box cover plate.The helpful reviews prompted me to go for this one and I'm not disappointed. It's a nice solid brass unit, larger than usual as described by other reviews, simple fitting and looks the part.Very happy, can recommend.

I chose this particular cover as it looked better quality than other less costly covers. The first package arrived and I could see small dotted blemishes on the plate but opened it thinking they could easily be removed with a cloth. I returned it and received a replacement which I can see is only marginally better and am considering whether to return it for a refund.
