Pearls Takes a Wrong Turn: A Pearls Before Swine Treasury

I say delight because I'm a newspaper comics fan. So, I am biased. This compendium arrived and Rat, Goat, and all the other characters were there in a rather large book. Price was right, delivered promptly and it opened me to a whole world of comics where a duck holds a cannon and a rat uses a bat a lot and not for baseball.

You can’t go wrong with any of Stephan Pastis’ Treasuries. You’ll be making the right turn with this Wrong Turn.

The Pearls' Treasuries are really great fun. You get about a whole year of these great cartoons. If you like puns - you are in for a treat. Some real groaners. Pastis is disturbed in a good way. I try to read just a dozen or show pages a day but end up reading more cause they are so fun to read. You won't be sorry if you get any Treasuries.

I've always loved the clever insights into human behavior provided by comics. I've tended to favor the mild ones, like Garfield and Peanuts. But I almost LOVE Pearl's. It is irreverent, it is clever, and it is insightful. As an author of historical biography and fiction which is often serious in tone, I love that Stephan Pastis can shed light on current events with wit and grace. I'd love to have tea or coffee with him some day just to say thanks for brightening each morning.

As with all Pearls Before Swine books, this is funny and clever.

Pearls was always a littler edgy. I love that! Is it my imagination or is it real that the character set is getting smaller? Pig, rat, and goat are in most strips. I'm a little tired of the entrenched repetition: Rat is mean and selfish, Pig is gullible, Goat is the straight man. Still.... This is a very funny strip.

From the variety/diversity of the characters, to the biting humor and silly puns... Pearls is one of my favorite strips (along with Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes). The humor is intelligent, witty and extremely entertaining... whether Pastis is poking fun at current events (especially the political events), commenting on social mores, or just indulging in immature body function laughs. If you like Pearls, you will like this treasury! If you don't like Pearls, you need to relax and enjoy life!

Complete rubbish from some guy that failed to have a real job, instead, without any kind of drawing skills, goes for this. Thank God Bill Watterson took some pitty on him and all of cartooning, I guess, and saved some of it. Notwithstanding, I love it; it makes me feel good in a strange way!
