Tsukemono Rectangular Pickle Press 1.6L

I have used this three times and it does what I bought it for very well, nice and neat. I obviously need to learn spatial volumes better because this product is REALLY undersized for what I wanted to use it for. It can fit 5-6 very small cucumbers and MAYBE a half a head of cabbage. I would have bought something 2-3 times larger as the process takes 2-3 days and only getting 1-2 meals worth of product is not what I was thinking. The construction is solid and it is easy to clean and care for. Overall I may end up just buying 1-2 more and keep a rotating set of batches. If you only need to make a small batch, this is an excellent product.

I have confidence in Japanese products and this one does not disappoint. I agonized between this more expensive, larger model and the smaller round one, and am very happy with this. It is just what I wanted. I use it mainly to preserve Persian cucumbers that I love in salad, but cannot finish the big batch of which they sell at Trader Joe's. This solves the problem completely. I just thin slice the cukes, add salt (a little goes a long way),close the lid, press down, and voila, water starts to rise within an hour. And now I have a good supply of such preserved goodies and no wasted cucumbers. All is well. Easy cleaning. Good looking appliance. No complaints so far. And no pressure from the seller to file a review!

Great pickle press. All visible parts are plastic, and there is a stainless steel spring inside. The nice thing about this pickle press is that the top knob does no stick out even when the press is all the way up. The "up" position of the press is at about half the tank depth, so that when you put your veggies at about 80% full, the spring will already apply pressure when the lid is closed. As the pickles release water by the the following morning, you can then screw down to apply more pressure. It is super easy to clean and it seems durable. 1.6L is a good size for 2-3 people. Otherwise I would recommend larger.

This is the perfect and safe way to begin if you have started to explore home fermenting.Home fermenting used to scare the ba-jeepers outta me! But I kept hearing about the health benefits and the wonderful flavors that can be coaxed from foods.A quick salted pickle, sounds pretty safe and easy, right?Right!As long as you layer evenly, salting as you go, you can't go wrong.
