Leo Spik's Derby Cane is Good, but Corners Cut on Quality
Leo Spik made a very nice derby style walking cane. I don't know what wood it is, but it's darker and redder and looks good. It's in three parts and is sturdy enough for me (190 pounds) to walk with it and feel secure. The brass derby topper is symmetrical and lightly ornate, as well as having a good feel in the grip of your palm. The wood is hand-carved in ornate patterns and makes a unique visual. However, I found that due to construction quality, the 3 parts of the cane do not align straight, and there's a noticeable bow to the cane. The ornate hand carvings seem a bit unrefined, where parts of the pattern are chipped out (accidently I think) and there's a lot of rough edges and etch lines where it probably could have been sanded better. Also, the cane tip is not safe for wood or vinyl flooring. The open rubber stopper is screwed into the bottom of the cane with a rough flathead screw and will gouge your floor. Finally, the upper brass collar grommet is not well milled, being both uneven and looks like it was twisted off the stock with a sharp point on one edge. It is not the same color as the brass head and is distinctly noticeable as different. The cane topper also suffers from an uneven sanding on the screw edge, but is hidden in the brass collar grommet. It would look much nicer if it was sanded even and the collar grommet was not used.I think overall, due to the defects, this cane is relegated to the costume jewelry closet instead of real usage. If slight refinements to take care of the quality issues above could be made, this would be much closer to a 5-star cane. I think if you need a costume cane, this is definitely a contender, but on the lower quality side.

The detailed carvings of flowers on this cane are awesome. It came in three pieces that you attach together to make the full cane. It's a bit tall for me as I'm 5'5, but the bottom looks like it could be cut down a couple inches without hurting the carvings. The brass handle is pretty and heavy. This cane is classy.
