I'm being completely honest
The amusing thing about reading amazon reviews of David Thorne's works is all the people who write them trying to imitate his style, typically poorly. But, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...I discovered David Thorne after googling a reference to a 7-legged spider in a wikipedia article. Reading his 27b/6 site was a hilarious experience so I proceeded to waste some money buying his early books, which mostly were content I had already read for free on his website. But I continued to waste money buying his later books, and I've enjoyed every one. His humor is not for everyone; you have to appreciate a certain style of sarcastic jerk (which I do). But he's not just being a jerk for jerk's sake, there's often a canny underlying statement about the idiocy of some attitudes. Or the people who hold them. I certainly wouldn't want to get in a verbal sparring match with him...The gimmick which led to his popularity has been publishing email threads where he screws with people who rub him the wrong way or otherwise ask for it, along with other similar shenanigans. As his writing evolved, though, he started including more stories of his life, past and present. His last book in particular is pretty much completely that, as far as I can remember. I approached the change skeptically, but I have to say I enjoyed his story format even more than his original email pranks; "That's Not How You Wash a Squirrel" turned out to be my favorite of his books. This book backtracks slightly (or evolves further?), being more of a combination of stories and emails. Not enough to take over the top spot in my opinion, but still an entertaining read, the typical David Thorne material.I do sometimes wonder how high my BS meter should be registering as I read some of these stories, but I've learned to stop worrying about that and just enjoy the read.My only real complaint is I finish these books too quickly. I realize David's a lazy procrastinator by nature, but it'd be nice if he put in the effort to generate a few more pages of content for my hard-earned dollar. My suggestion is to check out 27bslash6.com and see if your sense of humor is compatible with his. If so, explore his books with no hesitation.

A True Laugh Out Loud Experience
Wow. What a stunner. Everything David Thorne touches is a work of art. If you want to bust out in uncontrollable laughter during your morning commute on public transit, this is the book for you. Thorne gives the most brutally honest look at the often tumultuous, always ridiculous world of design, and as a designer, it resonates hard. While most of Thorne's works are satirical, there are the occasional moments in his books where the humor is set to pause to make way for an emotional, gut-wrenching look at a dark life experience. There was one moment (no spoilers) that brought tears to my eyes. All of Thorne's books are A++++++, and this installment is no exception.

Good book, not all the usual Thorne rambling
While this book is a little slower paced, I feel it shows that David Thorne can also write about serious feelings and situations, even while sprinkling a little humor in.Spoiler after this line. When he first mentioned Simon and the car, i had thought it was a joke due to the often facetious nature of David's writings and their relationship. But then to get blindsided later on with detail of going to the funeral. It was very surprising.

READ THIS
While I enjoyed the end very much, I also enjoyed the beginning and some of the other stuff in the middle area.

Very funny
Not quite as good as Look Evelyn, Duck Dynasty Wiper Blades, but still very funny and well worth reading.

Another belly buster !!
I love these books. My wife always knows when I am reading one of David's books, as there is continuous laughter. I end up reading much it out loud to her. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Cannot wait until the next one!

Laughed so hard I couldn't breathe!
I awoke this morning laughing out loud over something I'd remembered from this book as I was awakening. I'm so glad I bought and read it. I was familiar with David's blog, so was prepared for the kind of humor to expect, but with David, even when you know what to expect, it still often comes as a hilarious surprise. I don't think I'd want to be on the receiving end of his wit, but I do so much enjoy reading what he writes and how he writes it, from his observations of us mere humans and how we go about our lives. In this book, David reveals stories of his personal life, as well as his work life. I don't think more than a few paragraphs would go by without an out loud laugh, and in some places I had to stop reading to catch my breath from laughing so hard. Definite thumbs up. David's humor is not for the faint of heart, but if you're fairly normal and like to laugh, this is your book.

Very funny read. The book made me laugh out loud
Very funny read. The book made me laugh out loud, which usually made loved ones ask, "what's so funny?" Well, David's humor can't really be told...at least I don't have the skills to tell it.

Surprise Ending
I have read David's books and website with a smile on my face. If I'm feeling miserable then David's view on interpersonal relations are right up my street. In the last book there was a glimpse of a little darkness in his humour especially related to his parents. In this book the humour has a little more darkness about it SPOILER ALERT I was sad at the method of Simon's death - but David's defence of his friend against the woman who caused his death was outstanding - he should have had a standing ovation from the rest of the mourners.SPOILER ALERTThe title mentions a surprise ending - its more of "is that it?" The end came so quickly not because I was gripped but because it was a short book - that's why it's 4 stars not 5

Go away and rediscover the magic David
Not exactly his best effort - from the outset I found the humour a little strained and whilst things did improve and elicited from me more of the spontaneous chuckles that his previous works had managed, it still left me feeling a little unfulfilled.[Edit] Puzzled by this, I re-read it (it's not a long tome) and I discovered that maybe I'd perhaps not been in the best of moods during my first read-and-review cycle. It's actually pretty good - and in fact, I wish it had gone on for longer. Apart from the cat comics bit.

I've read it 11 times. What the hell am I doing with my life?
Actually it's probably more like 16 times. I should probably just go to sleep when going to bed but I have four of his books on more or less continuous rotation. I've tried other books but they make me sleepy.

more brilliant ramblings...
I think you either get these books or you dont. its kind of like marmite, you either rub it on your crotch and get the dog to lick it off or you put it on toast.also for the record amazon if your reading, typing on your fire HD is like tryng to contruct a sentence by throwing bananas at a type writer from the other end of a football pitch.

Indescribably funny
David Thorne is a comic genius rivaled by few. I'll keep this short and sweet because you should be reading the book right now. In this book you'll find hilarious true stories, mischievous antics and some heartwarming tales of the infamous Simon Dempsy who sadly left us last year. This is a book you'll have inside jokes with your friends and family about.
