Disappointing Retail Version – A Step Back for Dice Throne
I’m giving Marvel X-Men Dice Throne Box 1 a 1-star rating due to the disappointing design choices made by the developers and publisher. While this set includes Wolverine, Iceman, Psylocke, and Storm, the packaging and overall experience feel like a significant downgrade from previous releases.Major Issues with This Edition:1. Poor Packaging & Storage:Unlike past Dice Throne releases, where each character had their own dedicated tray, this set crams everything into one box with a single insert. All components are stored in plastic bags, making setup and cleanup frustrating. The lack of individual trays disrupts the consistency of the Dice Throne brand and diminishes the premium feel that previous sets offered.2. Frustrating Assembly Required:• The Health Dials and Combat Points Dials come unassembled, which is a first for Dice Throne.• There are no clear instructions on how to assemble them properly. The color coding (red & blue with L & R markings) is unclear, leading to trial and error.• If assembled incorrectly, the dials do not function properly—I had to remove a fastener, which was nearly impossible without damaging the cardboard.• One of my fasteners was damaged out of the box, preventing me from assembling one of the dials at all.3. Lower-Quality Components:• The plastic fasteners noticeably appear to have manufacturing defects compared to previous releases.• The hero panels are flat instead of folding, and they lack double-sided artwork, which was a staple in previous Dice Throne games.• These changes seem like cost-cutting measures at the expense of the player experience.4. A Step Back for Dice Throne’s Identity:• Dice Throne built its brand around high-quality, individually packaged characters. This format was maintained for Season 1, Season 2, Santa vs. Krampus, and Marvel Dice Throne—so why change it now?• Having all four characters crammed together makes storage and organization a hassle.• Instead of easily grabbing a character’s tray, you now have to dig through plastic bags and remember which pieces belong to whom.Final Verdict: Avoid the Retail VersionIf you’re a longtime Dice Throne fan, this retail version will likely disappoint you. The Battle Box available directly from Dice Throne’s website maintains the quality and consistency of previous releases, making it the better choice. The developers and publisher made cost-saving decisions that hurt the overall experience. If Dice Throne continues in this direction, it risks alienating its fanbase. I cannot recommend this version of the game.

Retail version boards do not fold.
I did not buy this from amazon but from my local game store. If you are a fan of dice throne series and have several other heros, this will not match your collection. This retail version does not have the usual storage containers and the boards do not fold. If you have OCD like I do, this may bother you. Game play is amazing as always but if you have a collection, you may hate this issue.
