Still figuring it out
You can use this to store a normal-sized water bottle and some smaller/thin pockets to store your essentials if you go on a run. I actually got these to go hiking but haven't really found a position that works for me - if I leave it towards the back, the water bottle top hits my back; if I put it on the side, the water bottle hits my arm; if I put it on the front, it doesn't hit anything but it is just sogging down. Maybe this is really meant for a plastic bottle and not an insulated steel bottle. The water bottle does feel quite secure because there is a strap on the bottom and an adjustable elastic band on the top.It has a lot of reflective features so I think you'll be pretty visible using this at night. I added a carabiner on the side in case I want to add more stuff to it. My phone is pretty large and it fit one of the pockets. The materials don't feel like high performance but it doesn't feel cheaply made. Overall, I may not be wearing this too often since I didn't feel comfortable wearing it.

Like a mini fanny pack that holds a water bottle
I do not like wearing a backpack when I'm hiking. Even if it's only a small hiking backpack. My family has fancy "hydration" backpacks with built-in water bladders. I also do not like hand-carrying a water bottle even though I know I should bring a water bottle. And asking someone who is wearing a backpack if they could carry my water bottle doesn't seem right. Thus my search for a solution to my problem (yes, it is my problem). When I found this waste pack it seemed to fit the bill. It securely holds a standard water bottle in a convenient arms/shoulder-free manner around my waist, and as a bonus, it can also carry my phone, wallet, car keys, and a few small snacks to free up my shorts pockets! For the money, it is very well made with quality materials. Hats off to the product design team as it is apparent that a lot of thought and consideration went into the location of the water bottle, pocket functions, safety considerations, and material choices. Very pleased with this order and I expect that I as well as my fellow hikers will appreciate that I am now (mostly ;-) self-sufficient and able to carry my hiking necessities.

Bulky and not practical for running, might work better for hiking
This belt is as advertised so I can't deduct more than 2 stars, but for me it didn't work as a running belt. I run at least 3-5k and this belt was far too bulky for me during my runs. I usually run with minimal items and clothing, so it may just be a personal preference. I think I need a thinner belt with small water bottles attached. I will say that it was nice to be able to carry my keys, phone, ID and cash all in one place!

Finally, a way to never be apart from my sparkling water
Yes I am that Primadonna who runs 8 miles with a can of sparkling water strapped to her body! I've hiked the Italian Alps -- and in December I'm gonna do a marathon -- with sparkling water in a hydration pack too. My sons are mystified that I think I am too good for still water And have outright asked me, would you die of dehydration if your only choice was still water? And it's excellent one. But now that I have this little hip belt, we will never know will we.First of all don't wear this thing the way it's Photoshop into those product photos. Why oh why can they not just use a real photograph? Can't you guys just make your daughter wear it and take a decent, well lit picture with your phone? Crikey.Anyway, I wear it with the tallest part off to the side, almost to the hip. It's more cool kid that way.If you secure it snuggly, it's not going anywhere. It has everything I need to stole my necessary objects like keys, a credit card, snacks and plastic bags for my dog, etc, And doesn't flop around when I run (Though though hydration pocket is definitely small. Your best bet is 8 ounces or even less, any more is pushing it.

Amazing bag, but make sure you have a small cell phone.
This fanny pack, running, walking, and hiking bag fits comfortably and stays nicely in position during both my runs and hikes. It is designed on the back side to not flop about with some extra grip. Very cool. It can fit a 16 oz bottle give or take, that is generally enough water for me on a 10 mile or less run. The pockets hold keys and any small extras fine but when it comes to my cell phone, it's just a tad too small of a pocket to fit comfortably.I have an Android 6.5 inch phone and it barley can fit. And if I do get it in there, it's a struggle to get back out. So, make sure your phone is at least 6 inches or less. The smaller the better. Or have one of those fold up phones. Because this pocket will be a struggle if you are in my camp. If your phone is bigger than 6.5 there is no way it will even fit and zip.Overall, the bag is great. But I wish the pocket was just a fraction bigger for my cell phone's size.

Exactly what it says
Maybe I should worry that Amazon knows too much when an item comes already adjusted just right for me, but this one is going to see some use. I recently injured my shoulder in a wreck, which makes it painful to carry a hydration pack. Putting a bottle on a waist belt means I can at least haul around a liter of water without pain, so that gets me back to some short hikes in the Texas summer.Good selection of pockets for your keys, phone, compass etc. and the water bottle pouch holds regular SmartWater bottles and similar sized water bottles, though you'll want a tall, narrow bottle to do a liter rather than the fatter ones common for sodas.
