Pricey but like no other ointment on the market. Addresses more than just dry eyes.
I have corneal dystrophy and dry eyes. My eye doctor told me to use Muro 128 ointment at night but it is so expensive for little tubes that I went with a cheaper ointment without the sodium chloride. It helped my dry eyes but didn't help my main eye issue. I finally just bought a tube of Muro at the drugstore and used it every night. My eyes were so much more comfortable and I didn't need eye drops at all during the day. I found it here for a little less than the drugstore sells it and bought a two pack and have been buying two packs every since.I have learned to use just a little rather than squeeze a lot into my eyes. Only a very small amount is needed. It immediately lubricates my eyes with no stinging like the liquid/drops version. My eyes get blurry but I am going to sleep so it doesn't matter. When I wake up, my eyes feel refreshed and moist. I wish I could find a generic substitute for a cheaper price - this is basically only petroleum jelly and salt - but I haven't been able to so I will pay the price because my eyes have improved so much and they really are worth whatever it takes to keep them healthy. Muro 128 is keeping my eyes healthy.

Pricey, but works
I have corneal erosion (EBMD) and dry eyes, and this product was recommended by my eye doctor who is a cornea specialist. It is pricey, but it works to keep my eyes lubricated while I sleep so that my eyelids don't get stuck to the surface of my eye and tear off the cornea - sorry if that's TMI. It's a must have for those of us with the same or similar conditions. Applying this to my eyes is the last thing I do before I climb into bed. It does cloud your vision temporarily, so don't use it right before driving, needing to read something, etc. I have used this product during the day when my eyes were at their worst and needing the extra lubrication, but I made sure my eyes had plenty of time to absorb it before I needed to "really use them". I am never without my Muro, and try to always have at least one spare one too since this product seems to frequently sell out online and at stores. I alternate this product with Akorn's Sodium Chloride 5% Ophthalmic Ointment 0 .12 oz (3. 5 gm) which is comparable, but I use this one slightly more and especially when my eyes are extra dry and/or irritated. If you have dry eyes and use drops during the day, I recommend Refresh Plus Lubricant Eye Drops, 50 Single-Use Containers; I didn't want to use a "single-use" product because I thought it was wasteful, but these single-use eye drops are the only ones on the market that don't have preservatives which can be irritating to the eyes. If you are needing 4 or more drops a day in your eyes, eye drops WITHOUT preservatives are a MUST; I had to learn this the hard way, so I'm trying to spare you that lesson.

Works well for my eyes
I've been buying a cheaper brand which I can no longer find. I must use this ointment for sleeping as I have torn the cornea of both eyes twice. It is very painful and scary. Do not want it to happen again, EVER. I have dry eyes and this ointment was recommended by my ophthalmologist. Since using my cornea has not turn again. Muro ointment is a bit different than cheaper brand. It is thicker coming out of tube but goes on easily and my vision is not as blurred as when using the other brand. I can even see the TV or read just after using. Also, it doesn't ooze out of tube if you lay it down while applying to eyes. This may make it as economical as cheaper brand but to soon to tell.

Life saver
I've had recurring corneal erosion in both eyes for years, particularly in my right eye after detached retina surgery and later a torn cornea from a poke from a stray piece of straw. It's a terrifying condition that wakens you in the middle of the night when your cornea sticks to the inside of your eye lid, and tears if you either move your eye or open the lids. It literally feels like someone stubbed a cigarette out in your eye, and no pain killers are effective for this condition (mainly because the optic nerve goes straight to the brain whereas painkillers work by interrupting pain signals in the spinal cord). Mine could be severe enough to be debilitating resulting in losing a day's work (or any activity that day). I now use Muro 128 nightly in each eye and (touch wood) have been without incident for a year. I did have corneal abrasion surgery to treat the condition, and that worked for about 6 months (not using Muro 128) before coming back. Since then the Muro ointment has kept the issue at bay. I have tried many other night time ointments and this is the only one that reliably works. I used to balk at the cost and the inconvenience of using an opaque ointment in the eye, but considering the pain it prevents, it's worth every penny.

can't live without this
I was getting recurrent corneal erosions due to dry eye. Suddenly they dramatically increased in frequency, about once per night. It was a total nightmare and went on for a few months. Regular ointments didn't help. My eye doctor, a dry eye specialist at a very prominent dry eye practice, never mentioned this product to me even though I was clearly suffering and desperate. I found this on my own, and after reading compelling reviews here on Amazon from other people afflicted with RCEs, I decided I needed to get this stuff. And it works! I will use it for the rest of my life.I started with a generic drugstore brand and although my eyelid no longer stuck to my eyeball, my top eyelid was now sticking to my bottom eyelid because of all the sticky goop. Which then made me get more RCEs because to get my eyelids open I had to use a little extra force. I switched to Muro brand and haven't had that problem. So I'm afraid to ever use another brand but Muro.
