Unlike water purification tablets this device has no use by date which is a major plus. It doesn't go off and is ready to use as soon or as late as needed. It's a wonderful emergency item to have. It would also be great to have in a backpack for travelers. There's been a lot of research done on these water filters and they definitely do work. It not only removes parasites and other nasties but it makes the water clear, even water from a dirty puddle. The water tastes as water should. They last a very long time, longer if you're able to use a cleaner water source as oppose to one where the filtration needs to work harder such as a swamp or what not. I say get one, if for no other reason right now than peace of mind.

This works alrightI was a little dubious as I'm sure my last water whatsit was much more expensive.I like that the ends are silicone meaning you can push the end over a tap spout or push a bottle mouth into or onto it.The drinking end is a v small stub covered by a bung.You get a collapsible bottle and a thin pipe with a weight on so you can fill the bottle and then squeeze the bag to empty into a container or into your mouth .You can fill a different bottle and have that syphon using the weighted tube.It can all fit into its draw string bag.This all means you can drink from a stream. a container of collected water or a bottle of water you aren't sure about.Really a useful thing for any bug out bag or camping adventure.You don't realise how good these are until the water you were going to use for camping remotely is not where you expected it to be , then you are so glad you have the filter to give confidence in drinking from unlabelled taps and even puddles and streams .This straw wont remove Sea water contaminants, Chemicals from factory contaminated water or chlorine from swimming pool water.You can back flush the filter to clear it for next use.Having used the branded types before, this is not bad.I looked inside the top where you can remove it for flushing.It appears to be the straws of filtering stuff like you get in the posh ones and then a sponge of some sort after the straws.I suppose if you had a water quality test kit you could tell for sure but based on basic use with some water barrel collected water, it works fine to remove bits and naturalise the taste.
