Superb photos of Great homes, properties !
Amazing aesthetic outcomes, including stunning new houses, structures + high-impact upgrades to existing homes, properties. Book manifests how timber framing adds an often awesome, uniquely rich dimension to buildings. These homes then seem to me to "resonate" with a then more 'natural', & authentic/ "historical- American" feel.I felt final section illustrating timber types, their preparation & construction techniques author/ builders used, added lots of valuable insight! Writers ~ intriguingly show examples of timbers they "recycled" from old industrial bldg.s !I sent a copy to a friend who loves "craftsman" architecture/ design & to his daughter- a young architect.

Hybrid Timber frame construction
I was negotiating to have a hybrid house built back in 2003 with the author (Tony Zaya). I was unexpectedly trandferred and never got to complete the project. I know that back in 2003, there were no materials to accomplish the hybrid model. I am glad to see Tony delivered on a market need.

A great resource for builders, designers, and homeowners
Timber Frame Hybrids has something for nearly everyone: people thinking about building a new timber framed home or addition, architects and interior designers seeking insight and inspiration, timber frame enthusiasts looking for an exhaustive history of heavy timber construction, and builders wanting to understand how to put it all together. This book explores the fastest growing segment of timber framing - hybrids that integrate the traditional timber frame craft with other construction methods. In contrast to the purist ethic of the early timber frame revival of the 1970's, the hybrid approach helps to contain costs and preserve natural resources while maximizing the visual impact of the timber frame in important areas of a home.Different chapters explore the many facets of timber framing today and in the past. The authors trace examples of timber construction as far back as the crude dwellings of our ancestors and the history of timber frame construction to the earliest known timber joinery of China 7,000 years ago. In so doing, the authors formulate an argument that timber frame hybrids have been with us since the beginning, and have been the dominant method throughout history of building with heavy timbers. In my favorite section the authors explore several ways a space measuring 24' wide by 36' long can be timber framed, and a further section of the book seeks to open up the vast range of design choices available. Over forty residential timber frame projects are then illustrated with gorgeous photographs help to illustrate those choices in real-world settings. Finally, builders and architects alike will benefit from a section detailing the methods of integrating timber framing with contemporary and innovative construction technologies.Timber Frame Hybrids is an abundant source of information and inspiration and belongs on the shelf of anyone seriously interested in timber framing.

Like so many of these books this highlights such high-end ...
This truly is inspirational. Like so many of these books this highlights such high-end houses that the likelihood of being able to build a house like them is unlikely. This doesn't diminish the fact that you can still glean many ideas that you can modify to use in your own dream house - whether an actual project or just a dream. The houses highlighted truly are masterworks and they set the bar high and then surpass the line between architecture and art.
