Q: Can food coloring be used in clear hummingbird nectar?

It is advised never to use food coloring as most experts feel it is poisonous to the hummingbird. They will find the clear nectar just fine on their own. The clear sack of hummingbird market which Amazon carries it’s a wonderful mix. It gives them some of the same ingredients as the flowers that would be their normal diet. I highly recommend it It mixes easily in just warm water.

Q: Do you mix the powder with cooled boiled water or with warm tap water? There are differing instructions on bag label and pamphlet that came with it

It dissolves in room temperature water. I use distilled water or spring water if I’m out of distilled. I would recommend tap water because of the chlorine and toxins. But if you do, I’d boil it and let it completely cool (with wrist test). The product is amazing quality and the hummingbirds love it, but will only be pure with purified water. Boiling tap is better than not, but will not remove all the toxins (lead, pesticides, etc.)

One part sugar or nectar -- to four parts water.

Q: Gmo free? pesticide & herbicide free?

This is a product originally put together by a wild bird store in Tucson. It would be only healthy ingredients. I cannot feed birds anymore due to a mountain lion hanging out in the neighborhood , but when this product was used, there was a very significant larger number of humming birds. GO FOR IT! THEY LOVE IT!
