The Lost: A missing child is every parent's worst nightmare (Stone and Oliver Book 1)

Fabulous read.
This is a back and forth book. I know who did it, oh no can't be. Ah that's the killer, no, it's the first one thought and on it went. Great characters and back stories to leads. Stone and Oliver are a team.

An excellent detective novel set in Northumbria
The story was good, with no clarity as to whodunit until the end. The characters are great and will lead to other good stories in future. The reader is left with some tantalising mysteries. I really enjoyed it. Well done.

"Quality"
This is the sort of book that makes a mere storyteller want to pack up. The quality of the writing, characters, dialogue and setting are pitch-perfect. As for the plot; well, that's as twisted as a corkscrew. No wonder this author wins so many awards. I could have given far more than five stars if they were available. Highly recommended.

Clunky dialogue, characters and writing but a page turner.
This was a decent albeit rather implausible story which kept me turning the pages in spite of some dreadfully clunky dialogue that veered towards being both pompous and priggish. The central characters were the main disappointment however. The DI-Stone- was colourless and I failed to build a mental picture of him at all as he made little impression. The DS - Oliver- was I think meant to be feisty but too often came across as obnoxious and rude despite being the hero of the force etc etc. It was all very sickly. I wouldn't buy another unless it was a 99p offer and then I might see if the characters improve.

Really absorbing novel, sets the scene and then picks up the expected fast pace....
Protagonists Stone & Oliver are an identifiable combination in law enforcement, set against the backdrop of the extraordinary & diverse county of Northumberland, the accuracy & detail of which, in my opinion, adds to the credibility of all Mari Hannah's (MH) books. It could be that you had stepped into the adjoining office next to Kate Daniels. With clear knowledge and skill MH, sets the scene, in book one of three, with another intriguing plot, which took me halfway through to guess 'whodunnit', from then on in I raced through to the end as the plot began to pick up the recognisable MH pace. Really enjoyed The Lost and now looking forward to reading The Insider and how the working combination of Stone and Oliver develops...with the scene set in book one, i am expecting a fast pace from the off.....

Oliver and Stone
First in series Oliver and Stone. The setting is the North east of England. Interesting main characters. - they are strong and unique with plenty of flaws and quirks .The characters specific to this books are: the distraught mother, her secretive husband, the golden child, the mother’s wealthy sister and the French nanny. Who did what and with or to whom? The case develops in unexpected ways, that is impossible to predict. Murder seems to surround this family. The question is why?
