Timeless and magical
I loved reading this just as much as forty years ago. Heidi is a magical story that captures adults' hearts as much as kids. Lovely to have the original illustrations.

as good as I remember
Heidi is what you'd expect from a classic...classic.When i read it in my teens, I think I forgot how much I sometimes feel it is beyond a children's book when I read the language in this tale. However, the magic remains.Good job.

What’s not to like?
When I first read this book several years ago I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. I grew up with the Miyazaki anime version back in the 1970s but only recently I got to read the original book. This edition of the original text with the original illustrations just became my favorite. It’s really well put together and it’s the perfect way to go back to this story.Everyone thinks it kowns about the whole Heidi story because the character is a classic but not many people read this original novel. So I say go for it. It’s got a perfect atmosphere and it’s one of those books that did not aged in its writing style too. Excellent.

The joy of re-reading a classic!
A delightful re-read, so many memories of my eleven-year-old self enjoying this for the first time in the 1970s having borrowed it from the school library :-) Heidi's story is particularly poignant for female readers, in my view, and I was touched by her cheerful optimism, caring nature, and resilience. I also remembered enjoying the completely 'alien-to-me' backdrop of a childhood spent for the most part in the Swiss Alps; this was way before the internet, and we painted pictures in our minds of far-off places based on the quality of the author's descriptions. I know they have made films of the book on at least a couple of occasions, but I would be too scared to watch any of them as I can only imagine disappointment compared to the novel. The inclusion of the original black-and-white drawing was a bonus. A must-read if you like children's classics and this has not been ticked off your list yet.

Timeless classic!
“Heidi” was one of my favorite stories as a child of six. I pretty much wore out the book reading it over and over again. It was a pleasure to read it again so many decades later and discover that the characters and storyline are every bit as engaging now as they were then. I like the original illustrations, though they are black & white on the kindle version. The formatting is good except for the full page pictures, where the captions under the pictures get shoved over to the next page on kindle readers (not a problem in the paperback). This happens when you enter the picture and caption separately. It can be fixed by putting the picture into an art program like Illustrator or Photoshop, make your caption using a text block, then export it as a pdf file. Now it can be inserted into the kindle version as a single file so the caption will stay with the picture regardless of what size font a kindle user selects. I won’t dock a star for this issue because the rest of the formatting is good, and I understand how hard it is to format for kindle versions. But I do hope it gets fixed. If you’ve never read “Heidi” before, it’s a quaint tale first published in 1880 in two volumes and was translated from the original German into a multitude of languages. Some readers might not take to the old-style writing of the book or the slightly stilted translation into English, but to me it adds to its charm. And young readers will enjoy the tale and the way it’s told. Definitely a strong recommend!
