Beautifully Simple
Believe me, this little book by James Samuel is just impossible to stop reading. It is brilliantly and beautifully written as well as remarkably illustrated by Carol Ruzika. Samuel says in his preface to the book that he was introduced to the reading of Proverbs in the Hebrew Bible by his mother; hence the idea behind this book. He also says that the book is written following the pattern of Aesop fables--his style, the simplicity of narration, and the originality of content--justify this claim. I believe that the book is written with a young audience in mind as a resource for parents to teach their children. However, even grown ups can learn a great deal from these little Pearls of Wisdom. Although the book has a Christian moral tinge to its stories, as a student of comparative religions, I recommend this book to people of all faiths, even to those with no faiths. Surely this book falls into a genre that we certainly lack in Christian literature, viz., biblically inspired moral stories that can be as easy read as either Aesop fables or Indian Jataka tales or The Animals’ Lawsuit Against Humanity. This book can be a great piece toward that (much needed) genre.

took some 'pearls of wisdom' from the book of Proverbs and created simple stories that's easy for a story listener of any age to understand
I'm not a big book reader but this book was gifted to me coz I teach little kids sunday school. The title and pictures caught my attention for sure because teaching little kids under 5 yo from the book of Proverbs is unthinkable. ..for me anyways! But this book lives upto its name. ..took some 'pearls of wisdom' from the book of Proverbs and created simple stories that's easy for a story listener of any age to understand. The actual verse is right at the bottom of each story too so if you wanted to teach a memory verse ...its right there! I especially enjoyed the narrated stories the best. Coincidentally enough, the next day after I get this book. ..my 3yo nephew came to visit. I decided to give it a try. When he saw the book. ..he loved the pictures! He sat me down and pointed at each picture and said, "tell me the story". We went through 4-5 stories in one sitting. Now...this is a 3 year old!!! Need I say any more to prove this is a good book for kids!
