Q: What to do when it does not go together per instructions

I did not have that problem. At one time I had a piece upside down, and I reluctantly took it apart and redid it correctly. Check that your pieces are facing the same way as in the instructions. Beyond that, I'd contact the manufacturer.

Q: Did anyone use this in a kitcen? If so how did it work out?

I used it. It works well for me when I put heavy items on the bottom shelf inside the lower doors. It could use some corner brackets inside the lower doors and at the back. Corner brackets might also make it more sturdy when placed on the corners inside the lower doors, but at the top of that space ( I hope that makes sense). It’s just a little rickety without something heavy at the bottom. The other thing to consider is that I didn’t fasten it to the wall.
