They work!
They seem to do a good job. Easy to use, easy to remove, hold the project just fine. The face of them is a little rough so I wouldn't use them to hold down finished wood without a buffer of some sort (1/4" ply). I suppose I could file and sand down the faces so they were less likely to mar a finished face but so far I've not needed to.

Hold down clamp
A friend of mine showed me how to use these… Just a tap of a hammer or mallet on top secures it and A tap or tap On the side with the mallet releases it. So much easier to use than a screw clamp. Where has this tool been all my life? I am so glad to be owning three of these at such a reasonable price. They work great!

Work great
They hold well in 3/4 in holes in a 1inch and 1/2 benchtop…I also have one in an inch and 3/4 hole works just as well

Worked exactly as indicated.
It's not always possible to use regular clamps to secure a project. These and the Bench Dogs together worked perfectly so I didn't have to try to hold my project with one hand to work on it. Nicely made and did the job as indicated.

Should not be painted
Definitely good value for the money. Holdfasts can be expensive. However, one huge gripe is that they should NOT be painted. They should be left rough on the shaft so they grip the dog hole. The paint makes it smooth and it does not stay down when the workpiece is jolted (like when struck with a chisel). The portion where the holdfast comes in contact with the wood could be ground smooth so it doesn't leave marks on the workpiece. The manufacturer would save money on paint and labor if this step were skipped.

solid - good paint -hold reasonable
These holdfasts seem very solid and well made. I REALLY like the rust proof paint. If you hit them right the hold is really good. That piece of wood in the picture i can't move for anything. They seem a little more fussy or particular about where and how you hit them on top to get the hold vs the rounded ones i have used at my friends shop. It might be just getting use to them. They release perfectly with the back tap though - so no problem there. Overall worthwhile purchase. I'd like to apologize for not getting this review done anywhere near time. I need surgery on my back and neck and could not get my workbench done to test these. I had to invent a temporary 3 inch piece of wood to test them with. I really wanted to put them through full paces but just wasn't able too. Sorry Also in case you missed it these are designed for a 3 inch bench or close to that - if you have a full 4" bench they probably wont hold correctly

Head broke off
I've ordered the "3-Pack Hold Fast Bench Dog Hole 8 Inch Wood Clamps" on Amazon a while back and just started using them (had to build a workbench in order to make use of them). The second time using one of the clamps the top part just broke clean off the shaft, I was using a rubber hammer and not a lot of force.Very disappointing experience, doubt the clamps are made of cast iron steel at this point.Would rather have bought one good cast iron bench clamp and some cheap adjustable ones if I had know this in advance.
