Its a magnet on a stick. It works to pick up shells. I think it could have a stronger magnet but being able to pick up about 5 shells at a time is good enough. The magnet is up a little on the stick so you can get more shells on it. At first I thought that was weird but after using it, it makes sense.

I am using this product for everyday use on my job to magnet test smoke detectors. I feel that whether I am out at the shooting range or out in the work field, this collapsible shell retriever proves to be essential tool for me. It easily collapses for convenient storage and transport, and the included carrying bag ensures that it can be comfortably taken anywhere. I like the sturdy construction it ensures that it maintains its functionality over time. I also like how the strong magnet force ensures that no shell is left behind. Compared to the name brand at the range, this magnet is not as strong as the $30. version. Works OK on steel based hulls but lacks power when attaching to just spent primer (brass, plastic or aluminum based) hulls.

I have a couple styles of these with the flat magnet on the bottom and decided I wanted to try a straight stick. This is handy for sticking into a pile, but the bottom 1/4 inch doesn't seem to have a magnet in it, which might seem like a bad thing, but in actuality I find this helpful when I put the stick in the corner of a box and backdrag it to drop the hulls, most of the time when I get things dragged to the end they fall off into the box as long as they're on the bottom side.It folks up and has a Velcro strap that so far is working well, and makes it easier to store in a backpack, or cargo pocket.Really like this unit and may get a couple more for doing events.

I have used this a few times now while hunting birds and it makes cleanup much easier. With this, I can grab 5 or 6 shells at a time, and an easy tap on a bucket will knock the shells off the magnet. This is a time saver and makes it easy to grab a few extra shells others may have left behind too.

As I get older I enjoy picking stuff up off the ground less and less. This is a super handy tool for picking up spent shotgun shells without all the bending. We coach to kids to leave a clean field behind them so this helps that job in a quick way. Holds lots of hulls and easily sweep them off into a trash can with your hand.

The media could not be loaded. Very cleaver idea just poor execution. The magnetic core is placed 2.5 inches above/from the end of the pole and appears to be 2 inches long so the magnetic area is from 2.5 inches from the end to approximately 4.5 inches. So when I placed paper clips on the ground it would not pick them up. When I angled the pole almost parallel to the floor I could pick up the paper clips. I removed the plug at the end to see if the magnet would move but it’s wedged into the the pole and does not move. I imagine if I cut off 2.5 inches off the end of the pole I could get the magnet closer to the end so the tool would be effective. Also the description claims the pole is 56 feet long. It’s actually 37.5 inches from end to end. It folds up nicely and the handle is very comfortable. The included nylon storage case is perfect for transporting and carrying. With a little more work, attention to detail, quality control and testing this tool would be perfect for the application it’s designed for.

There’s a lot of hunters in my family and everyone was envious of my new cool tool. Picking up shells is effortless and efficient with this one collapsing little piece. Highly recommend
