Strong smell from tea tree oil, oily, but very soothing and worth it if you can handle tea tree oil
This balm is thick from the various plant oils, shea butter, and beeswax, but when one grabs a balm over a cream or lotion, that is exactly what you want. Think of it as a sustainable alternative to petroleum jelly or mineral oil, but made with natural oils plus ingredients that are thought to be soothing and healing. As such, be careful what you wear it with; the oils can leave oil stains/residue.I found this balm to be soothing to rough and inflamed skin, but it also has a fairly strong smell, mostly from the tea oil. It's quite prominent, and if you have a skin condition for which it helps, you are likely willing to tolerate the smell. Tea tree oil, while beneficial to most, is also a common allergen, so that's something to keep in mind.If the company edits their listing to accurately reflect the product's EWG status and indicates what type of zinc is in the product, I'd consider this a 5 star balm for those who can handle tea tree oil.*EDIT: the seller did just that! I have left my the rest of my original review so you can see what they responded to. For those interested, zinc oxide gets a 3 on EWG, but the non-green rating is mostly for sprays and powders, and I suspect this product would get a green for its use of zinc oxide. That leaves all products essentially green on EWG except for tea tree oil which is rated a 6 because of how allergenic it can be.----This product claims to be EWG tested, but this is not accurate. The 2019 product is in the EWG database, but that's it. EWG didn't approve or disapprove of this product, and it certainly didn't test it. Manufacturers have to pay for the EWG verified mark (those funds help keep EWG running), and this does not have that mark in the EWG database. Because it's not free to be EWG verfiied, I certainly don't expect companies, especially small businesses such as this, to be EWG verified, but they could note the product score on EWG, which was a 2, and be honest about it, versus saying it's been tested.Note I said the rating WAS a 2. That's because the product rated on EWG's page is a 2019 formulation which is different from the current formulation. The formulation didn't change a lot, so the overall rating is likely the similar, but the manufacturer shouldn't make any claims when they've changed the formulation. The most significant change is the addition of zincum powder. Zinc is a reactive metal, so pure elemental zinc is not in this product; this means ingredient info is incomplete. Possibly it could be zinc PCA, zinc oxide, zinc gluconate, or zinc stearate? Who knows?*Current formula: Organic virgin Sesamum indicum oil, Organic virgin Cannabis sativa oil (hempseed), Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, Calendula officinalis, Organic Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel), Organic Althea officinalis (marshmallow), Organic Withania somnifera (ashwagandha), Lavandula angustifolia buds, Organic yellow beeswax, Organic Melaleuca alternifolia oil, Matricaria chamomilla, zincum powder2019 formula as noted in EWG database: Virgin organic sesamum indicum (sesame seed oil), Virgin organic cannabis sativa (hempseed) oil, Organic Calendula Officinalis Flower, Hammamelis Virginiana (witch hazel), Organic Althea officinalis root (marshmallow), Organic Withania somnifera (ashwagandha root powder), Organic Lavandula angustifolia buds, Yellow beeswax, Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oilNote about my reviews: I am a skin care addict and actually try every item I review as part of the Vine program (some don't open even open the product so they can resell it).

Smells ok…non-irritating
I’m loving the quality blend of this herbal balm. It’s great for fry areas of the skin. It smells herbal/medicinal, but that was expected. It goes on smoothly, but it’s a tad bit oily/greasy. I find it best to apply in slightly damp skin…it absorbs better.Great product!

Awesome salve!
This is a very rich salve, it goes on smoothly and feels a little greasy at first but that goes away after a few minutes once it soaks in. It’s incredibly soothing and moisturizing and a little goes a long way. I’ve had a few calluses/rough spots on my hands for months and after using it just once they already felt smoother. I’ve kept using it since and my hands feel so much better, those rough dry and cracked spots I couldn’t get rid of are now gone. I think it would be great for any area that’s dry and in need of some help, or even just as a great moisturizing and healing salve. I don’t love the smell; it’s almost like bug spray or a citronella candle smell, but it’s not horribly overpowering and for all the good it does it’s totally worth it. I like the choice of ingredients and that they are all natural so I don’t have to worry about what mystery chemicals I’m putting into my skin. I’m really happy with it.

More suited for first aid purposes than itch relief I felt.
The balm is nice as a form to use instead of a lotion in my opinion. It goes on and stays on with use of a dressing over top than a topical ointment. I don't mind the smell I do like tea tree oil. As for itch relieving qualities I'm not sold on it does very well. I applied it to areas but felt it wasn't really making the itching subside enough or to where it was really noticeable or even delivering fast itch relief.I just think in general it's more suited to providing relief for first aid purposes due to the tea tree oil or even because of it's consistancy a better option for dry, cracked, or rough skin. In which case I deducted 1 star for it didn't perform well providing relief for itch skin.

Great Product, Softens Rough Skin
The product is in a thick 4 oz glass jar. It is apparently resistant to dropping because my daughter dropped it from about 5 feet and it survived without issues.Upon initial inspection, the product arrived fresh, smooth, and clean. The balm has a powerful tea tree scent that masks the other ingredients in the jar. If you carefully smell the product, you can pick up the other ingredients, but the tea tree is what you will smell when applied to the skin.I am a runner, so I wanted to apply this product to the roughest parts of my feet to see if it will soften the thick callused areas. To my surprise, the product softens the skin after the first application. The product is easy to apply and spreads out nicely. I used a cotton ball to apply the product. You only need a little bit per application, so if you use this product sparingly, it is going to last a long time. One note of caution. Although tea tree is great for preventing the growth of bacteria and fungus, this product will make your nails have a yellow tint. It does wash off, but something to consider when you apply the product.Overall, I like the product, and they didn't skimp on the tea tree. If you are looking for a good balm for rough, dry, or irritated skin, this is a good choice. I recommend this product.
