Hours of fun

We have a regular game night and picked this for one of our recent events, and it was a blast. Several friends of ours are true crime enthusiasts, and we invited them to try and crack two murder cold cases with us. It turns out that some of the most enthusiastic murder podcast listeners made for pretty poor detectives. Puzzle and escape room enthusiasts tended to do a better job of catching the small details and connecting the dots.One nice aspect of this game is that we did not have to destroy any clues in order to solve the case, so if you want to pass the game on to a new set of players after you finish, that is an option.I would say it took six of us about two hours to solve the mystery - maybe a little longer. It’s not that it was super hard, but the larger the group the more passing around of papers has to be done, and when multiple people have to re-read a dossier or a news article the extra minutes add up. But we had a great time!

I’ve done probably 10+ mystery boxes at this point so I am not new to a game like this. With that being said I really loved this brand which I was trying for the first time!The mystery took us a little longer than an hour which to me is on the shorter side, but I was glad! Sometimes things are so drawn out and people lose interest, but finishing it with 2 people in that time frame felt perfect.I appreciated how nicely outlined our goals were from the beginning so we knew what to keep in mind as we investigated. And the amount of clues to sort through seemed like the perfect amount. Not too overwhelming. I do think that having more than 2 people would make it easier to read through everything faster and that people would have fun shouting out their discoveries.All of the materials were great quality and seemed really well designed and thought out. I didn’t notice any typos or mistakes that made it feel cheap. It was better quality than other boxes I’ve tried.In the end we got 75% of the case correct and we were satisfied by the ending. Looking back over the clues we had trouble understanding the significance some of them had, but maybe the point is that they didn’t matter. We still can’t figure out what would’ve led us to the correct answer for the first question, but maybe we just missed something!Over all I’m really happy with this kit. It was a really fun night in that was short enough to hold the interest of a partner who isn’t as into these things as I am, and we were happy to figure out what we did! I would say it’s easier to medium difficulty and would be great for someone trying something like this for the first time.
